tl;dr: I'm about to publish my first urban fantasy book, Hispania Obscura, set in Madrid and the Iberian Peninsula. And I've written a short story set in the same story universe so people can get a taste of the style. It's only in Spanish for now, but I hope some of you can enjoy it still.

Hello everyone.

After much more effort than I thought it would take, but at the same time with much better resulting quality, I have published the first book of an urban fantasy series set in present-day Spain. It's called Hispania Obscura.

Yes, it will be available only in Spanish for now. I didn't want to use any kind of AI or similar tool to translate it because I want my words to remain mine, and still haven't been able to find a good, professional, translator (that I can afford). But if you, or someone you know, can read in Spanish, then hopefully you will find this take on the genre from a hispanic perspective refreshing and interesting. The book follows the style of the Rivers of London and Dresden Files series, but with a definitive cultural twist more akin to Western Europe and, specifically, to the Iberoamerican community.

The people I trusted with the drafts tell me they were pleasantly surprised, that it's a fresh departure from my previous SciFi stories and that they really liked it. (I'm trying to take that as a compliment).

The book will be available on all the usual platforms, both as an ebook and paperback. But in the meantime, I have a short story that can serve as an introduction to the world. It's free to read here:

[Luego de leer el sidebar no encontré información sobre si es o no posible la promoción, así que espero no estar rompiendo las reglas. Supongo que ya me enteraré si el post es moderado =) ]

Después de mucho más esfuerzo del que pensé que me tomaría, pero al mismo tiempo con mucha mejor calidad resultante, he terminado el primer libro de una serie de fantasía urbana ambientada en la España actual. Se llama Hispania Obscura.

Este es un género que siempre me ha apasionado, pero el estilo específico que yo estaba buscando solo abunda desde una perspectiva ya sea norteamericana o de Europa del Norte (Rivers of London, The Dresden Files, etc). Yo quería algo donde, no solo los lugares en que transcurre la obra en sí sean más cercanos, sino incluso la manera en la que los protagonistas reaccionan a las cosas y la forma en la que las instituciones operan se sienta más del estilo que en Iberoamérica esperaríamos. Por eso decidí seguir las palabras del gran Michael J. Sullivan y escribir aquello que yo quisiera leer: una historia que combine los elementos clásicos del género con algo de humor negro y una forma menos seria de ver el mundo.

Aquellas personas a las que confié los borradores me dicen que fueron gratamente sorprendidos, que es un refrescante cambio versus mis libros anteriores de ciencia ficción y que en general les gustó mucho. (Estoy intentando tomar eso como un cumplido).

Por supuesto que el libro estará pronto disponible en todas las plataformas conocidas, tanto en digital como en físico, así como en muchas librerías de España e Hispanoamérica. Pero mientras tanto y para que se puedan dar una idea del estilo del mismo, he escrito también una breve historia que puede servir como muestra:
