A chipmunk got into my greenhouse and ate nine Bird of Paradise seedlings and four Monstera seedlings in an evening. These are what's left.

Yes, thats a no kill chipmunk trap in the background.

I've been getting into orchids lately and reading a lot about them. I have a few, but thought it would be fun to get some more to learn about how to care for them best.

I posted on my local buy nothing group (a neighborhood facebook group where people give away stuff they don't want anymore). I asked if anyone would give me an old orchid that wasn't flowering and said I'd return it if I could get it to bloom again. Well, I had to cut the post off after 18 hours because so many people responded!

The picture shows the first 7 plants I received, but not the 4 I already owned or the 3 more I picked up the next day! I assigned each one a number so I can keep track of whose is whose.

Most were in pretty good shape, just dusty and a few dehydrated. I looked them all over and gave them a wipe down and a watering if they needed it and assessed their needs. One needed to be repotted right away, I think it had been kept too wet and it had a lot of rotten roots. I'll repot a few of the others in the next few days. Otherwise they're off and growing around my house! I'm excited to see how it turns out.

Below are the current succulents I have! I generally have a black thumb, but I'm trying to change that. Any gotchas to keep in mind when taking care of succulents? I already learned the hard way that I need to keep the dwarf jade indoors because direct sun causes the leaves to brown.

Clockwise from top: First day home, Burro's/Donkey's tail, Bear's Paw, String of Pearls.

I am looking for some plants ideally edible or other uses, that can grow indoors.

I tried tobacco, pythaya (dragon fruit), aloe. But it doesn't grow well or I have to wait very long time to have something from it.

So what is your go to indoor "useful" houseplant?

She had a rough start, but I think we're kinda friends now, albeit totally on her terms of course.

This has been one of my absolute favorite plants. I already had a huge one that grows on a big trellis - mounted on the wall (and then searches everywhere for new spots to cling to, slowly overtaking the wall at every opportunity it gets), but i wanted a second one as a hanging plant. This one is actually propagated. On april 19 i put three completely leafless stems in water. First, it started growing some tiny leafs, next came the roots. It is a fast grower. The backside is a dark red. Many people think it is a begonia, but it has no relationship to begonias. Last summer i had to leave for three weeks and it dried out and lost most of its leaves and then did nothing much. I thought i lost it, but repotted it and removed the dead leaves and low and behold, it started sprouting leaves all over the stems, surpassed the top of the trellis, and now already found a painting to cling to :-)

This is a succulent that flowers every year for me, with cute purple flowers. If you look carefully, you see tiny ‘hairs’ here and there. I belief those aid in collecting dew. It sits in a south window.

Got this plant as a housewarming gift last year and it’s blooming for the first time!

Took a picture before I chop and prop this up. The leaves are so big. I'm a proud plant parent.

It's never done this before

I love it so much, I'd love to use it as my desktop background. I'd also like to pay the artist for it if possible.

I had this series of posts in that other platform we cannot name anymore and thought to do an update on here 😁

For those who don't know, this is a Tevaplanter, a vessel I got from a quickstarter that allows you to do some kind of hydroponic gardening. Obviously it's not suited for all types of plants, and would work best with certain epiphyte species (orchids, hoyas, ferns, etc).

There are fake tevaplanters out there (I know bc I bought one), but at least in my experience they were leaking a lot and not fitted for the purpose (it ended up in the bin).

The box came with chia seeds as starter, but I did not like them a lot as many developed and started growing mold 😅

After the first trial with chia seeds (30 days aprox) I tied some pre-rooted hoya khroniana cuttings and a hoya nummularoides still tied to the mother plant. The nummularoides died and I replaced it recently with a keiki from a phalaenopsis mini orchid. 🌺

It has been there for couple of weeks and already starting to hug the vessel so I'm quite happy. Also the hoya cuttings have a lot of roots after three months.

I hope you liked this, I may post updates on the future 🌿

Nepenthes x Lady Luck and Drosera x Spatulata after moving into 1/2 perlite and peat moss. Roughly cut away and then sanded some planters with very small built in reservoirs.

Have a Venus flytrap and saracennia purpea x purpea that need a repotting but I overwintered them a couple weeks too long.

Help! I moved to Louisiana and put my hoya outside and the leaves are browning and dieing. This is happening pretty rapidly, over 2 or 3 days for the browning. My picture sucks but it is pretty widespread on the plant

I'm still trying to downsize, but that makes room for more plants 😅.
