You're not wrong, but Facebook made no effort to fight the issue and simply handed over data they never should have.

Keep in mind that those users who do not want to lift a finger in protest are usually the ones who do not want to lift a finger to contribute. Not a speedy death, but with our new content those lazy viewers will grow bored and find another source. I don't think Reddit has a plan to replace the content. No new content and it will spiral down the tubes. But as some pointed out, the IPO will be done by then and the current administration will be out on their yachts when it does finally implode.
Users that do want to protest can edit all of their posts and delete them. Reddit will undelete them currently, but they pull back the edited posts. If people do this in small batches it won't set off any alerts and the site stops having any relevant content.
If every mod that didn't agree with Reddit simply quit at the same time, the site would go to hell.
My advice to mods is to create a new community here and tell the community before Reddit nukes the mods. If the people know where to go, it won't be as hard on the community itself and lemmy gets more content.
Normally I would tend to agree with you, but look where Musk got his "loans" to buy out Twitter. Saudi Arabia and Russia where big "lenders".
That is when you find out your grandfather really wasn't your grandfather...
And that by doing nothing, you force a negative change elsewhere. Shame that you could have done something and not had the negative effect.
I don't recall the full story, but the reason SUVs and "cars" like this sell big is because they are classified as trucks and do not need to meet the same emission standards as cars. Thus it is cheaper to make and more power.
