Wow good for UPS workers. As a tech worker I can say I'm genuinely happy for them. They have a hard ass job. A win for labor is a win for labor, regardless of which type.

I've been using a Pixel 3 for about 5 years and I love it. I actually got a pixel 7 for work earlier this year and honestly prefer the pixel 3 lol. I've had some charging issues because lint gets stuck in the charge port, but I've been able to mostly solve those by cleaning out the port with a toothpick.

Same with competitive sports. As a tennis player, if I lose a match I'm usually doubly motivated to get back out there for another one.

Idk man I'm pretty sure the number 6 transitioned from number 9 and now wants to have sex with children.

That moment when you learn what .ml stands for.

Yup that is a real rough pill to swallow when the default is free AND no ads. If I'm going to drop money on lemmy I'd rather just donate to whoever is hosting my instance.

We investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong.

But in all seriousness, this feels like the chronological feed given to users was just a straw man intended to make their algorithm look better. Also the claim in the article that Meta's algorithm does not impact users politics is completely ridiculous and not at all supported by a study like this.

It's actually very different. An AI is not something that you just go build and then it's immediately useful. One an AI is built it needs to be trained in a process where it is exposed to examples of real works (text, image, video, etc) and "learns" how to reproduce similar works. This learning process involves using the real works to fine tune parameters of a large mathematical model. These tuned parameters are what make the AI an AI and not just a useless pile of random numbers. So arguably, the owner of every work used to train the model is as much a contributor to the AI as the AI company itself.

These media companies not only want to use artists' works to train a model that they will not be given any ownership of, they want to also own the rights to an artist's image and likeness to be able to reproduce that image and likeness in a potentially infinite number of derived works without needing to compensate the artist.

Pillars of Eternity 2. I'm not all that far in, but I've been loving it so far. The characters and story feel really well crafted, and there's just a ton of variability in how you can construct your party and progress. Hopefully the quality continues throughout since the first POE felt like it ended abruptly.

It's also an oppressive police state where huge portions of the population live in poverty and endure awful working conditions. Oh and they're actively engaged in genocide against a minority ethnic group. But sure if we just ignore all the downsides it's great.

Elden Ring is honestly pretty easy with the right builds. It's just hard really hard on a first blind playthrough since you won't know what the good items are and where to find them.

But then you have to change accounts, which I understand isn't difficult, though it's still something that needs to be done proactively by the user. Would be nice to just have a better content ranking algorithm that gives smaller communities a chance.
