GBA Advance Wars... I missed it first time round, so I'm playing it through on my Miyoo Mini Plus. Absolutely perfect handheld game, ideal to grab for a quick half hour mission.

Been playing FF16. Really been enjoying it! It's really just a movie or TV series with sporadic combat. But I really enjoy storyline in games more than gameplay most times. I like that they added items to make the combat stupid easy for someone like me that has never been good at doing combo moves. I feel like it might be a bit too easy at times, but still fun. I swore to never buy another FF game after 13, but I'm glad they released a demo so I could see how fun the game would be.

I've also been playing FF16 recently and been loving it. I can't really explain what makes it so good because in many ways it just isn't a great game. But what it does well, it's doing really well. It's just so enjoyable to play.

I recently got Techtonica, or if you prefer "Underground Satisfactory". One interesting difference is your research for new technologies creates a bulky waste product that you have to find room for...

Finished up Marvel Midnight Subs recently (few weeks ago). Solid game over all. Would recommend when it's on sale.

Right now, Baldur's Gate 3 (EA). I normally wouldn't pick up an EA game, but I saw it had a set release date like a month ahead and really all I had was a (paid) demo. Figured with Steam, I have 2 hours to find out. I've played it daily 😆. I'll be honestly surprised if this doesn't get GotW. So long as it's a solid launch and the story doesn't drop in quality after Act 1, I really think it could win.

Currently playing: -Rocket League (after a controller Hiatus) -TFT -Dave the Diver

Started but lacking the will to boot up recently: -Diablo 4

Lately I've been liking less involved games as it allows me to watch videos while playing and talking to friends. Diablo 4 has been a bit of a point, as I love the old Diablo games and series but having trouble really getting into the live service version. It's a solid game but just feels different overall. Took me extra time to beat the main story because I just kept putting it down. Dave the diver is worth the money. Great game so far and works in small plays.

Just started Humanity on Saturday and I've been having a blast!! I also played and streamed It Takes Two for the first time with my wife yesterday and have been enjoying it.

[-] Vlixz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I've started playing Elden Ring without really knowing what I was getting myself into..... It's been a experience to say the least. I don't think I've ever struggled with a game so much xD

Stardew Valley Expanded. A simple life with a bit of magic.

I'd like a simple life with easy questions and obvious answers.

I'd also like socializing to be that easy.

Resi 4 remake, been pretty superb, looks amazing on ps5, plays great, makes me jump, just been a pleasure. I played TOTK + FF16 prior to this and it feels really good to play something more exciting and fast paced, TOTK was good but I didn't finish it and FF16 was a drag but I forced myself to finish it, looking forward to dead space remake after this.

I complain about how remake heavy we are but also they just seem to be the most mechanically tight games available atm.

Disco Elysium. this game has consumed my life

[-] catalyst@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Me too! First time playing it after hearing a lot of good things. The story and gameplay are interesting but what really hooked me is how the game can surprise me with wild and unexpected dialog choices. I love going for whatever feels like the goofiest possible decision just to see what happens next.

Pillars of Eternity 2. I'm not all that far in, but I've been loving it so far. The characters and story feel really well crafted, and there's just a ton of variability in how you can construct your party and progress. Hopefully the quality continues throughout since the first POE felt like it ended abruptly.

I have just started dark souls III and I'm loving it. I have played ds1 and elden ring and was waiting for a sale for dsIII and just picked it.

I have made a Deprived because I like the extra challenge in these games

Exoprimal, very good game. They really should’ve marketed it better

[-] Brokensilence410@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I'm intrigued and don't know much about it. It's the Capcom one with a red hair female and Dinosaurs, right? (No, not Dino Crisis lol)

[-] LolcatXTREME@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah it’s basically like a 3rd person horde shooter with overwatch style combat (abilities with cooldowns, ultimates etc) but you’re racing another team to see who can complete all their objectives faster. Then there’s a final mission where you’ll do a PvP mode like 2payload or dominations where you can directly fight the enemy team. it’s a lot of fun and they’re adding a difficult end game PvE mode in a couple weeks as well

Finished FF16 yesterday, so damn good

[-] Slarlath@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I am thoroughly enjoying it right now. Honestly one of the first Final Fantasy narratives I've been deeply invested in for a while. It somehow manages to be over the top but still feel grounded enough to connect with the characters.

[-] it3agle@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

I've accidentally managed to get back into BDO, so I'm probably going to lose another few hundred hours on that.

The season servers tend to be fun, but I never know what to do after that.

[-] RedForFred@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Saaaaame. The moment I saw the event for the free T9 horse I knew I was suckered back in. Honestly after the season servers kinda wrap up, I move to afk life Skilling or trying to finish more of the giant quest list.

Halls of Torment. It's insanely addicting and I must have put about 13 hours in the first two days. It's like if Diablo meets Binding of Isaac is the best way I can think of to describe it. Check it out if you haven't heard of it.

[-] jwagner7813@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Vampyr Survivor clone, but in a good/different way.

[-] topazlad@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I've heard this before, definitely need to play that.

[-] op_maroon@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Currently putting a lot of time into Noita. It's the first flat screen game that has really grabbed me since I moved over to almost exclusively VR gaming in 2016!

[-] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I recently got Noita, really fun little game. I wish I could stop setting half the level on fire, though.

[-] HorseWife@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

I'm addicted to Dave the Diver at the moment, it's just so charming and fun!

[-] jwagner7813@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Mini early review of the game for me.

Tldr: for the quality and what I've played so far, $25 is 100% worth it.

The game is in essence multiple mini games that culminates into, find materials, use said materials to build up restaurant and continue to progress. The game absolutely BLASTS you early on with tons of things to collect, which is FINE! initially, it sucks though because your at barebones upgrades and things are difficult to do consistently because of it.

But as you progress you get stronger and the game cycle gets easier but with new enemies, collectibles, etc to do and see. The underwater zones change so things get pretty different consistently. The game also has great charm and sounds. Every area has its own look and feel, with a good and not too overdone comedy. Lots of cutscenes can be skipped too which is awesome.

My only gripe so far (still early) is combat is kind of basic and clunky, but manageable.

I give it a great early thumbs up and a recommendation.

[-] HorseWife@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I pretty much agree with all this - the combat's not the best but it's definitely good enough for what they're trying to do. It's my current GOTY!

[-] moonburster@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Would you say worth the money?

[-] HorseWife@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I beat it now and I would say yes! It's very fun. There's a lot more to do after you beat it if you're into that sort of thing.

[-] Transcendant@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Just finished Jedi Survivor... tried to go back and finish TOTK after playing Survivor quite heavily and it was horrid. Having a crappy little 'HUP!' jump sucks when you've gotten used to double jumping, jump dashing, wall parqour-ing... and the swordplay felt a bit stilted too after intense lightsaber action!

Now I need a new game to play, shit.

Factorio.

Utterly, unhealthily obsessed, and no end in sight.

It's good for me because the focus is building, with some defensive combat on the side; I've tried Mindustry to try to get the same time sink on my phone, and I've learned that I don't like tower-defense style games; but civilization building (-like) is addictive.

Excellent game, runs like a dream on Linix. Lots of fun.

Is there anyone who's tried Factorio who doesn't like it? I haven't come across a Factorio rant yet.

[-] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

I love factorio, I've been playing it since the .13 days.

[-] sxan@midwest.social -2 points 1 year ago

I love Factorio. Lately, I've been hating Factorio trains. Signals make no sense.

[-] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It took me a long time to get signals to sort-of work in factorio.

[-] sxan@midwest.social -3 points 1 year ago

Did you learn anything you could pass on? Every "tutorial" I read or watch just keeps talking about zones, but nothing explains why trains can't find a path to the destination when some signals are omitted.

I suspect there's something involving signals going in the opposite direction that influence the internal logic, but that's not explained anywhere I have found yet. I spend so much frustrating and un-fun time dicking around with the stupid trains.
