There are a lot of issues with your post imo.

First, cash is going away, soon. Sweden has done it years ago. Europe is now playing catch up.

Second, a universal digital currency will remove all system heterogeneity. Yes money is already digitalised, but across several proprietary environments. I can and have set up several accounts across several banks so my spending cannot be fully tracked by a single corporate entity. This will be moot once everyone has to use the same harmonized system.

Third, one of the sponsors of the universal European currency has been caught talking about time limited digital currency. As in, spend your money or it just disintegrates after a set amount of time. Which really destroyed a lot of trust in the endeavour

Where did you get the game from? Most platforms like steam don't actually sell games. You pay to rent the game for life, which is different. Those platforms can change the terms of service for your rental whenever they like. If you prefer to own your games you need to visit actual shops, like GOG.

I think you're hitting the nail on the head. A lot of publishers are blatantly misusing EA to put out an unfinished piece of software to socialize the testing, and hope for a more understanding playerbase because of the EA status. Not only is it manipulative, it also skews reception like it does here. Personally, I categorically skip all EA because I only buy finished products. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be interested in a good tribes game.

Can anyone tell me if it's worth playing now, if you never played those games when they came out and don't feel nostalgia while playing them?

And now we know why the original was delisted on steam. Don't buy into this crap. Buy the original on gog for 1,50€

They've been around a bit now. Everyone seems to be pretty satisfied. Desktop app could use some improvements, which is already on their roadmap

I'm curious to see how the combat mechanics will be accepted. Reads like Mass Effect in a high fantasy setting. Could be cool, but at the same time, Dragon Age fans will come to expect something more strategic.

I think that take is short sighted. Because the next obvious step to "no right to online anonymity" is "online anonymity is illegal", and it's pretty obvious we're headed that way. In that case, courts can make it pretty fucking hard to protect your right to privacy.

I started it as well. Had weird sound issues that I had to fix by downgrading my system sample rate. It looks and feels amazing now that it works.

Money transfer platforms are even worse than chat apps in terms of how acceptance dictates usefulness. You might convince a couple of friends to use xmpp instead of whatsapp. But its near impossible to get major outlets to integrate new payment methods. Especially if that platform advocates privacy and therefore doesn't offer a return on invest based on user data. I don't think we're gonna see true alternatives without government regulation, and even then...

Exactly this. He's a corpocrat, which is a big no-no in the french public eye. Also, he has more of an assimilation instead of integration style in regards to immigration politics, so he's right leaning as well. Doesn't help that the left doesn't have any candidates that anyone can take seriously.

I played through the invincible. Great story, visuals and voice acting. I am however reminded, that walking simulators aren't really games. The whole thing should have been a mini series.

FOSS app locker (feddit.de)

I'd like to harden my device and put some of my apps (mail & chat mostly) behind an additional layer of security. I found this app, that comes pretty close to what I had in mind.

However, it hasn't been updated in 5 years and some options in the app are still flagged as in development. Anyone know of a maintained alternative?

Since I upgraded all my devices to KDE 6 I have this weird issue with my laptop and media PC. The software update icon that sits in the tray and starts Discover seems to think I'm using a light plasma theme. It's only this one icon, and it's the same for all icon themes. I do not have this issue on my desktop, which has the same updates (comparison in screenshot).

I have tried the following to no avail:

  • switching between multiple icon themes
  • switching between KDE light and dark plasma themes
  • deleting ~/.share/icon-cache.kcache

Anyone have any further ideas?

Started to get this message when accessing Reddit. I use LibreWolf as a browser, which does indeed provide a more generic user agent to combat fingerprinting, but nothing out of the ordinary either (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/119.0). Anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: seems to have resolved itself. Thanks for confirming I wasn't doing anything wrong. Let's hope this isn't some new algorithm to test if for insufficient fingerprinting so Reddit can kick ad-resistant users.

I recently was able to acquire an older Dell Venue 11 Pro 7130 with an Intel i3-4030Y and 4GB of RAM.

I installed Fedora GNOME spin thinking GNOME might be the right DE for touch interfaces. Sadly it behaves sluggishly and the touch capabilities are lacking. Nautilus for example can't deal with long clicks to simulate right clicks, making file browsing a chore since I need to plug in a mouse and keyboard.

Does anyone have any experience with older convertibles? What distro do you use to make use of the touch interface while keeping a snappy system?

I've installed Fedora 38 with an encrypted system partition since I'll be traveling with my device. OS is running fine but now I'd like to have a more human readable label in dolphin for that partition. All renaming attempts in the terminal with "e2label" and "btrfs filesystem label" failed. The KDE partition manager didn't help either. Disks at least shows me the option to add a label, but can't unmount the partition to do so (Error unmounting, udisks-error-quark, 14).

Does anyone have any experience and would like to share?

A group of filmmakers wants Reddit to disclose the identities of several users who made piracy-related comments. Reddit objects, citing its users' right to anonymous speech.

The Reddit Files

6/17/2023, 9:28:19 PM

Operators broke into Reddit on February 5, 2023, and took 80 gigabytes (zipped) of data. Reddit was emailed twice by operators, once on April 13 and one again on June 16.

There was no attempt to find out what we took.

This is again another instance of Steve Huffman undermining his own agenda. He makes an effort to appear tough, but we are all aware of what happens to individuals like him when businesses go public. such as Adam Neumann of WeWork.

I told them in my first email that I would wait for their IPO to come along. But this seems like the perfect opportunity! We are very confident that Reddit will not pay any money for their data. But I am very happy to know that the public will be able to read about all the statistics they track about their users and all the interesting confidential data we took. Did you know they also silently censor users? Along with artifacts from their GitHub!

In our last email to them, we stated that we wanted $4.5 million in exchange for the deletion of the data and our silence. As we also stated, if we had to make this public, then we now demand that they also withdraw their API pricing changes along with our money or we will leak it.

We expect to leak the data.

Pass on the torch, Spez, you're no longer cut out for this kind of work.

Apparently Reddit is now preventing people to anonymously browse NSFW posts in the browser. Instead they invite you to download the app.

r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH over on reddit has an excellent compilation of useful links and guides regarding piracy, that surpasses anything on r/piracy. I took the liberty of creating a Wayback Machine snapshot to preserve that wiki.

That list gets updated still from time to time. If anyone has an idea where to host it somewhere safe to keep working on it, let me know, I'll gladly do the footwork.
