I see. I don't always pay attention to who sent the report since it usually doesn't matter. In the future, I'd recommend using a more descriptive report reason (in this case, adding "I'm a mod but I can't remove an admin's post" would have sufficed), and, if it happens again, sending another report or contacting the person who resolved the report

(apparently an admin can't delete another admin's post either, but I've asked DankZedong to remove it)

What? I don't remember receiving any such request, and certainly not refusing it

I see; I've never seen "neoimperialism" used as a synonym for neocolonialism elsewhere

[-] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 8 months ago

so you're using "neoimperialism" to refer to what Lenin called imperialism?

[-] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 8 months ago

"standard" as in the type practiced by the US, France and a few others (roughly, control through both finance capital and hands-on repression of resistance)?

[-] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 8 months ago

of course; I'm just wondering whether it makes sense to call countries imperialist if they don't engage in imperialism independently (in which case more or less all of Europe would be imperialist)

[-] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 8 months ago

if country A participates in country B's imperialist project (e.g. joining an invasion), wouldn't that make country A an imperialist power (albeit a lesser one) as well?

[-] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 8 months ago

Isn't this just the ML definition of modern imperialism? Is there a country that's imperialist in the classical (pre-capitalist) sense?

[-] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 8 months ago

which lecture is that?

archive.is and similar sites aren't great for Tor users (at best, you have to solve a CAPTCHA), so providing an alternate archive.org link would also be appreciated

I think that's pretty normal for USians, you can't say anything positive about the USSR without surrounding it with baseless or massively exaggerated claims about how awful everything was

What is Matrix?

Matrix ≈ Discord - tracking + end-to-end encryption (by default)

Matrix is a protocol for real-time communication (text, audio, and video) implemented by various applications ("clients") -- the official one is Element for Linux, macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS), but there are many others, e.g. those listed here. It's also federated, like Lemmy. To use a Matrix client, you need to make a Matrix account at one of the Matrix homeservers (similar to how you can make an account on lemmygrad.ml or lemmy.ml but still access both of them). We have our own Matrix homeserver at genzedong.xyz, and you don't need an email address to register an account there.

How do I join the space?

(If you already have a Matrix account, skip to step 3)

  1. Download a Matrix client (e.g. Element) on your device.
  2. Create an account in the client. You can select genzedong.xyz as your homeserver here; if you choose the default matrix.org, you'll need to enter an email address. If it doesn't work on your client, try using Element Web for registration.
  3. Log in.
  4. If you have a Lemmygrad account with a solid posting history (moderator discretion applies), post your username in #vetting-answers-encrypted:genzedong.xyz or #vetting-answers:genzedong.xyz (make sure that your Lemmygrad account has your Matrix account listed in your profile), or request an invite on Lemmygrad by commenting or PMing your Matrix account name; otherwise, read the vetting questions in #vetting-questions:genzedong.xyz and answer them in either of the two aforementioned rooms. (These instructions are also available in #welcome:genzedong.xyz)

Primarily for those who don't already have a discussion group, but anyone interested in Marxist-Leninist theory is welcome 👍

It won't require intensive reading/listening; it should be doable for anyone who works or studies full time. We're currently following a study plan from China, but we can add recommended texts (decided by vote). We've recently started and are currently reading some introductory texts (Mao's "On Contradiction" at the time of writing) 👌

You can join the group at #reading-group:genzedong.xyz (an encrypted room), either through the GenZedong Matrix space (see this post) or by mentioning your Matrix account in this thread 👋
