Alright, absolute noob here, I'm not particularly interested in computer science or an OS I have to obsessively research. First, how is gaming on Linux nowadays? I play a lot of games, most of which are not triple-A, so I wonder how accessible this is. Second, what distributions are accessible and still customizable? I have all kinds of peripherals I'd like to be able to use, speaker systems, midi controllers, etc.

the sensors aren't placed on desks, you can see that the displays are placed outside of bathrooms because that's where kids generally vape. my high school has sensors inside the bathrooms on the ceiling and they don't work. you're thinking of a scenario that's incredibly difficult and costly to implement, I assure you no district would be willing to hook this bullshit up to EVERY DESK. the term "Simon's desk" here is likely just a name for one of the sensors they used to test this concept, with the sensor being located at the desk of a developer named simon

got really tired of the "-core" haters, they seem to get upset only at the naming convention because hardcore influences often make a subgenre even heavier

like have you ever heard of mathcore?? that shits peak, its one of the noisiest subgenres i know AND it has hardcore influence

gatekeepers can stay mad

Three Body Problem is great for if you want more world-oriented experiences than character-oriented ones. The character in focus changes often and sometimes harshly, but I feel it's in service of the plot and feels great.

id argue a police officers job is hard in a police state as well,

i of course agree with acab but i also think its worth empathizing with officers whose mental health has been ruined by their training (see That Dang Dad on youtube who WAS a police officer and still experiences the pain of his "training"). theyre trained to be afraid and see danger everywhere, which is fucked, and as such being a police officer is not a job with 0 drawbacks. we all hate police, i sure as hell do, but no one should be trained to live in permanent fear, seeing murderers in everyone.

Use of the word "comrade" (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

I see the word comrade get passed around a lot on the internet, particularly lemmy, and I've never really known the lore behind it. The only association I have with the word is that it's a word I primarily see used by tankies (as in, authoritarian leftists who hate on authoritarianism in the west but not in the east). Does anyone know and can explain it in a relatively understandable way?

I'm fairly new to piracy overall, but I feel like I understand the basics of how to avoid my ISP and such. A family member who's in college texted me the other day asking how she could pirate textbooks and I realized I'd never thought about it. Any tips for pirating textbooks? Safe sites?
