Where are you located?

IIRC, Catodon development is currently halted (https://catodon.social/notes/9rl77swzw25jjq7x).

Sharkey I don't know

There really is a whole *keys forks lore ha ha

A few ideas from the top of my head

  • Flairs that can be allowed to filter content in a community
  • Major online communites (can be subreddits, or other communities) moving to Lemmy
  • Reddit removing old.reddit
  • Reddit banning people using VPNs (already happening, see !reddit@lemmy.world )
  • Lemmy becoming the reference source of knowledge for a certain domain

Second point is probably crucial, but I don't see any major subreddit wanting to move here. StarTrek is the exception more that the rule.

Yeah, not the best place indeed

Thanks for the link! I usually just use the Reddit link, I've had alternative viewers shut down in the past (e.g. Invidious instances for Youtube) and then people can't access the content anymore

Yes, I was surprised as well

To me, FireFish got replaced by IceShrimp. Good looking interface, nice features (Antenna) and regular releases.

I share your pain... No solutions for you however, sorry

Interesting comparison of the AI eraser functions on the Pixel versus the Galaxy.

This shows county median home values divided by county median household income, both for 2023.

For example a score of "5" means the median home price in that county is 5 times the median household income in that county.

Generally, a score under 4 is considered affordable, 4-6 is pushing it, and over 6 is unaffordable for the median income.

There are of course other factors to consider such as property tax, down payment amount, assistance programs, etc. Property tax often varies at the city/township level so is impossible to accurately show.

Median Household Income Data is from US Census Bureau.

Median Home Value from National Association of Realtors, and Zillow/Redfin .

!interestingasfuck@lemm.ee, because it's always nice to see something interesting while you browse Lemmy

tl;dr: !movies@lemm.ee is a complementary community mostly focused on discussions rather than news

Hello everyone,

As I did a few weeks ago to share the discussion thread about Dune: Part II, I just wanted to share again about !movies@lemm.ee.

Why another movie community?

There are a few movies communities on Lemmy, be it this one or !moviesandtv@lemm.ee. They are mostly focused on movies news, but don't have much discussion threads about current movies.

On top of that, as Lemmy doesn't have unique URLs for posts, there is no way to just have a megathread pinned with links to discussion threads, as those would only work for people on one instance.

Which is why !movies@lemm.ee was created. Our most successful thread so far was for Dune: Part II (direct link to the thread), and we hope to have other insightful discussions about movies in the future.

Some time ago someone expressed that one of the things they were missing from Reddit was being able to go to a discussion thread after having watch a movie to read other opinions on it, we are trying to fill that gap.

Have a good day.

I'm not gonna lie, sometimes it feels a bit lonely. I try to post on a few generic communities

Sometimes I can be the only poster for a few weeks. Makes me requestion the relevance of posting at all. I started posting to !pics@lemmy.world recently just because at least my posts are widely seen, and other people post there as well.

Small post to ping a few people who might have interesting insight on the questions discussed in this community.

Probably a very polarizing question.

On the one hand, having most of the users and communities on LW causes technical issues (see this post), and also gives the LW staff too much power over Lemmy as a whole.

On the other hand, with 18k MAU on LW out of 47k (https://fedidb.org/software/lemmy/), every community listed there has a much higher chance of visibility compared to an alternative hosted on another instance
