I highly appreciate all trackers and the work everyone puts into it but the longer I'm part of the system, the longer I see that nothing really changes (2/3 years time horizon). Most websites are old, on 9 out of 10 trackers it's incredibly difficult (time intensive) to upload torrents. Innovation and rules are also very slow

Torrents. Germany. There you have it.

Might I suggest something? Switch to usenet. Once you'll go *arr (sonarr/radarr et al) you'll never go back. It's lile 5 bucks a month for everything your heat desires at maximum speed all the time. And at maximum comfort. There even are many boards for mostly dubbed crap if you prefer that.

On top you don't need sharing or a vpn.

I tried both Usenet and Torrents. Of course Usenet is way easier but is not strictly better. Torrents get content way faster than Usenet (usually within a few hours of airing).

Couldn't care less for those few hours, as i rarely could download any torrent with 1gbit 😁 especially not in krautland with a damn vpn. Also more comfy. A new episode gets aired today? Shortly after it's in my emby. Don't even need to lift a finger. Easily beats a few hours quicker with a torrent.

Public facing German private trackers

In Germany it's really risky to use torrents in general since there are lawyers that are specialised in sending people very high bills for seeding.

Most people know someone that got one of those bills over a couple of thousand euros so a lot of people are a bit traumatized when it comes to using torrents here.

BS. I’ve been torrenting in Germany for over 10 years and nothing happened. You just need to understand what you are doing. VPN and/or private trackers and you are safe.

me, too - but how does that invalidate my point that almost everyone knows someone that got such a letter and that that in general turns away a lot of people from taking their first steps

Then why don’t you try to educate people instead of scaring them back out of the seas? Genuine question.

It’s a easy as “don’t torrent without a VPN”.

OP was asking for reasons why German torrent trackers are so slow to get new stuff and I just explained the reason why people are not using torrents as much here

Wow. I guess I framed my question as wrong as possible.

I meant the "websites" not the torrents nor the content.

[–] beta_tester@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I guess that's the answer why some are afraid. Those who are afraid may just use a vpn and are safe.

How about seedbox in the Netherlands?
