This is pretty much false. Notice how they cite "people familiar with the matter said". That's usually doublespeak for "nobody official, just some Western pundit who dreamt about it".

This is probably a ploy to get Russia to deny this, so they can then turn around and say that Russia isn't serious about peace. They are doing this to get the lights off Zelensky categorically and most publicly turning down the US ceasefire proposal given to him in the recent London talks between Ukraine and US.

Yeah, Peskov already made a statement basically saying this is false. I saw interesting speculation that the story was put out intentionally so Russia would come out and dismiss it before the Ukraine meeting in London, and then the narrative could be that Russia doesn't want a deal. Peskov's statement is more sophisticated than that though, he doesn't outright deny it, but very strongly insinuates it's bullshit.

I call bullshit. Theres is no way Putin is going to give up on territories that are part of russia by constitutional law. Reuters is reporting its dreams as fact.

If this isn't just made up bullshit it is a trick to show the us that the zelensky regime is incapable of dropping its maximalist demands and being realistic even when Russia offers them a really good deal.

Also very likely that it is being misreported, and Russian demands will be different. Until we have an official statement from Russia it's all pure speculation.

Doubtful, although I wouldn't be surprised if the US leaked/encouraged this sorry to try to pressure Russia. Also, since the talks in Saidi Arabia started the US constantly comes away from the talks with different conclusions of what was agreed Upton than the Russians. https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202503/1330868.shtml

I think it's actually more to pressure Europe and Ukraine, because the US can say they accept Russian terms and if Europe balks at that then the US will say you're on your own.
