!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

After getting randomly banned on a subreddit (without breaking any of the rules) and accidentally posting on there with a different account, Reddit permanently banned me from their site. Appealing the ban didn't work.

Now, as soon as I create a new Reddit account it gets automatically suspended either immediately or after a few minutes to sometimes hours.

I assume many on Lemmy face similar situations and also switched to Lemmy because of a similar reason and they might also wonder how to bypass such a ban.

It seems like Reddit is using advanced fingerprinting since normal methods such as switching VPN, deleting and re-installing the browser/Reddit mobile app (including all associated data) and changing email doesn't work.

I'm not skilled enough and don't really have any "hacker knowledge" to bypass the ban. After extensive research I couldn't find a better solution than getting a new device or formatting the whole device.

I assume there must be a better way of changing ones fingerprint without just fully formatting the devices. Maybe it could work by changing the MAC address or something?

My goal is to not have a complicated way of accessing Reddit and resolving the issue in a way that one can access it completely normally again like in my case with the Chrome/Edge browser on Windows, Safari on Mac, and the Reddit app on Android.

Maybe someone has the knowledge here to help with this.

No, you're not the first to ask, and the answer is usually "Good. Maybe you could use more time away from Reddit."

[–] Mediocre_Bard@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Seriously, just walk away from Reddit. You will feel better.

[–] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

Take it on the chin like a champ and move on. Reddit is for simps and posers anyway

I assume many on Lemmy face similar situations and also switched to Lemmy because of a similar reason I don't know that I've actually seen someone admit that they're on Lemmy because they were banned from Reddit.

Most people just don't like Reddit for some reason or another. Pretty sure Lemmy as a whole gained a lot of population when Reddit did their API changes- that's when I joined Lemmy. I used Baconreader for years, and I refused to swap to their dogshit mobile app.

Yeah, I could be on Reddit all day if I wanted to… I don’t want to, it’s radioactive at this point. Might as well go frolicking in the dump.

You’ve posted this to a lot of communities that understandably don’t care for this topic. Here are where you should actually post your question !reddit@lemmy.world or !reddit@lemmy.ml

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nah, we'll say the same thing there.

Well it at least frees people who don’t subscribe to the Reddit communities

You were a horrible little troll and got your comeuppance. Enjoy your ban.

[–] Tetsuo@jlai.lu 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Exactly.

He wasn't banned for no reason. Every banned user says that and then a mod will show a ton of very offensive behaviour.

[–] archonet@lemy.lol 0 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

because reddit admins are surely always in the right and never overzealous about banning for the slightest transgression or even non-transgressions, right?

...right?

[–] Tetsuo@jlai.lu 2 points 13 hours ago

Hey you can believe what you want. They may be in the wrong but I would say it's statistically way more likely OP just got what he deserves.

Just like any criminal would systematically say they are innocent even after an appeal.

Maybe OP could show us screenshots of that appeal? Just curious.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm more curious why they banned you.

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ban evasion. I had literally this same exact situation happen and lost my 10 year old account. I talked about piracy in /r/Movies and got banned then sitewide permabanned for accidently commenting there from a different account.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Did OP say that's the reason?

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

The first paragraph of the OP states this.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, the always credible "banned for no reason"

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

As opposed to the "totally competent, fair, and capable voluntary moderators of reddit?" Have you ever spent any time over there? Plenty of people get banned from subs simply for commenting in other subs that a mod might not like.

[–] archonet@lemy.lol 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

why would you want to? it hasn't been worth using in well over a year or two now.

The most I get out of reddit nowadays is looking up error messages or other tech issues, and I don't need an account for that.

[–] cranakis@reddthat.com 13 points 1 day ago

I'm not banned from Reddit. I deleted that shit and suggest you do the same.

[–] Bullybeard@lemm.ee 1 points 19 hours ago

Same shit happened to me it's why I'm here, ended up being banned on even my 3 year old account... As far as I reckon it's a device ban,so if you really want to keep using reddit try it on a different phone or computer Although I'd love if someone figured it out how exactly it works because I kept getting shadowbanned as well

[–] Ziggurat@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

We need more people here, so just have some fun with us.

[–] NeoNachtwaechter@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I have used 3-4 different reddit accs, back in the days, when I was still there.

Sooner or later, I got some ban or other.

I simply used the next one and that was that.

When you are unable to do that, find out how they could identify you as the same natural person.

Some ideas:
The same app/browser? (without any privacy settings)
The same IP address?
The same E-mail?
The same way of swearing? 😉

If you did all of these wrong, then no wonder.

When I got banned I tried to create a new account several times and used up several clever usernames which were immediately banned. So I gave up on having a Reddit account. Several months later I decided to try again, this time with a username that was just a random string of digits and using a brand-new browser. I think I was on a cellular connection instead of my home internet when I created the new account. For whatever reason it worked that time. Maybe the fingerprinting isn't as effective if you haven't logged into Reddit for several months?
