No thank you.

Current design doesn’t bother me one bit. Tons of screen and a reasonable amount of protection around the edges.

I hate this. I want to be able to pick up and hold my phone without accidentally tapping on something near the side.

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Many phones already have this solved through software.

Not Apple though. I constantly trigger something I don’t want while I try to reach the top left with my thumb.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Well Apple hasn’t solved it, because every time I try to set my phone down but leave an app open like instacart or DoorDash or Uber, with a map so I can check where my driver is, and I go to pick up the phone again, it taps the map which launches the map app, so I’m in an entirely different app when I’m trying to quickly check on something time sensitive. It’s super fucking annoying.

Also obscuring the top portion of the screen with the speaker and camera is pretty fucking stupid too.

So yeah, I hope they “solve all that with software” or whatever the fuck……….

I think this applies to tablets but bezels on a phone are pretty useless.

[–] garretble@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Give me a flat phone instead that doesn’t wobble when you set it down. No, I don’t care about cases.

Bring back that iPhone 4 is what I’m sayin’.

(Calm down nerds. I’m not being that serious. You don’t have to hyper analyze this.)

Honest an og iPhone 4 physical size with more modern screen to body and modern capacities would be the nich spot for me. That includes the headphone port btw ....

[–] B0rax@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Have you held an iPhone 4 recently? They are really small.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I didn't want a phablet back then and I hate the fact that you can only buy them now. I would love an iPhone 4 sized phone

[–] Paul_Harts@mastodon.nl 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

@NotSteve_ @B0rax Totally agree! The iPhone 13 mini is the iDeal mobile since you can do everything with your thumb. And it’s not annoying to carry it in your back pocket while hopping in the car.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

I had a iPhone 12 mini and would have loved a 14 mini if it existed :(. I ended up getting a 14 pro for a good deal but I miss the size of the mini

[–] this_1_is_mine@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah I have like six of them sitting in a box.

[–] this_1_is_mine@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

All right is this coming from somebody who's carrying a tablet in their pocket?

[–] B0rax@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just a „normal“ sized recent iPhone. Compared to the iPhone 4 it is gigantic

[–] this_1_is_mine@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

So yeah technically you are carrying a tablet in your pocket

[–] garretble@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I mean…I wouldn’t hate it.

[–] WereCat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Google Pixel may not look appealing to many but it doesn't wobble

[–] Mbourgon@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago

…which will then have bezels added by a case because it’s more breakable. But yeah, sure, pretty.

[–] captainastronaut@seattlelunarsociety.org 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why? What are we going to do with 1.5mm of extra screen space? Seems like a lot of effort.

[–] kalleboo@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I bet they need the technology for folding phones/tablets (instead of a crease, have two screens that but up against each other with no bezel) and this is how they get the volume in manufacturing to make those doable.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago

Haven't we been through this before and we decided that small bezels provide a lot of utility for both drop protection and ergonomics?

[–] ricdeh@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Holy shit that concept art looks so beautiful

[–] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I wish they’d focus on removing that silly “dynamic” island. I’d actually rather have a bezel at the top.

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I want the curved that Samsungs had 10 years ago

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Oh hell no, curved displays are a pain in the ass, constantly activating by accident.

Even 0 bezel I don't know how that works with having to touch the sides of the phone.

[–] GreatRam@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

My issue with my curved screen phone used to be that it catches reflections way more than a flat screen

[–] teft@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Curved screens also constantly break. My buddy buys samsung with curved screens and he’s bought probably 5 times as many phones as me because the screens always break.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

I really liked the infinity screen, but was annoyed by the limited screen protector options.

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 1 week ago

As another comment well before you already explained, that’s not true.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

why? what is the practical benefit?
