Collapse

This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.

Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.

Author can't even capitalize their own name. The first paragraph sounds like it was written by a 13 year old. I tried to keep reading but I couldn't.

No, you're not supposed to like degrowth. Medicine doesn't usually taste good.

The guy is young and not a native speaker. It would be sure nice to taste some medicine, however bitter. Instead, we are getting unmanaged collapse at any scale but personal and small community level.

This is semantic drivel. Degrowth has very concrete meaning in marxist terms. It is a shorthand for undoing the decades of horrific damage done to the environment for extractive profiteering.

Marxists have a horrific track record on the environment.

A nature based way of living is as alien to Marxists as it is to capitalist societies, often moreso.

China literally just built the largest solar farm on the planet.

Honestly you should be demoderated from this comm. Eco-socialism is literally the only way to sustain life on this planet in a reasonable timescale. Your only other alternative is eco-fascism which is just a nihilistic death cult view of humanity. I am remembering the human right now when I say fuck you and everything you conceivably stand for.

If you think solar farms are good for the biosphere you should come drink some water from near the manufacturing plant or go view the pit mines and their tailings from mining the minerals to make the solar panels. sure its possible they can be less net harm than say coal fired power plants but conflating chinas giant solar farm as a good for them environment has no basis in reality

feel free to elaborate on why i should be demodded

Eco-socialism is literally the only way to sustain life on this planet in a reasonable timescale

interestingly the most sustainable homo sapiens on earth were african tribal people for 300k years none of whom had anything to do with "eco-socialism" or 'marxism'.

Your only other alternative is eco-fascism which is just a nihilistic death cult view of humanity

false dichotomy fallacy , also shows an incredible lack of imagination.

also please elaborate on "what i stand for"

i'm interested to know what you people think. what is the thought process that if someone doesn't agree with you they must somehow be some fascist. its one of the most socially authoritarian mindsets ive ever seen and im curious how it works on the inside

Degrowth can't "work" , it can prolong the shit show though and theres something to be said for that, ask any Cancer patient.

Zero chance of occuring though, so while discussion on the nuance are intellectually interesting they hold no promise aside from hope for some of a better world..

Most people dont even grok it means a better life for more, they wrongly assume they're not in the more I guess ?

Perhaps after cicikisations collpase ? but I'd expect that we'll leave a childishly irradiated world.
