Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

The first woman over 25 he's interested in!

[–] iconic_admin@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago (2 children)

This is all I can think about every time he’s in the news. Yes fuck trump but this guy is weird.

[–] granolabar@kbin.melroy.org 38 points 2 months ago (2 children)

In context of the hollywood if this is his only wierd thing, he is a saint.

People get bent out of shape over him while hollwyood is literally filled with rapists and pedophiles who mostly went un punished with a few exceptions.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You can hate the pedophiles and rapists and still think what he does is creepy too. It’s not a sliding scale of dickbag where the more awful shit they do the more okay it is to do less awful shit. I can’t believe you got 7 upvotes for that.

[–] granolabar@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 2 months ago

Him being "creepy" is juat your opinion that is shared pretty widely

Rapist and pedos are criminals and get away with it because they are part of the club.

Bringing up that hollywood is pedos amd rapists woll generally get downvotes while teo consenting adults using each is apparently an issue worth society's attention.

Thats some whacked out priorities is my point here.

that's a big if. there's no way that a guy who can't go near women with fully developed brains has no skeletons in his closet.

[–] SteveKLord@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 months ago

He's one of many celebs known for having close ties to Diddy so those skeletons will be coming out of the closet soon enough.

[–] granolabar@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 2 months ago

Yes i would not bet my farm on it but are there any credible reports?

It seems any time a sex pests gets exposed, everybody in the industry already knew... Diddy, Weinstein, sheen etc

Is it weird to be attracted to younger women, know that marriage isn’t for you, and then have different relationships within the type that interests you?

Idk, I think he’s just marching to his own drummer rather than being an Epstein.

[–] basmati@lemmus.org -2 points 2 months ago

It is weird he hasn't matured in any way since his 20s, yes. Usually humans continue to develop throughout their lives, interest in relationships with people significantly younger than you either shows you haven't matured since the rough age they are, or you feel people your own age are far too challenging due to their equal footing and prefer manipulating less mature people.

He needs to safeguard the planet for the next generation of his girlfriends

At first, I was like, "Who cares?"

But as I think about it, people and especially Conservatives, love to use the Wolf of Wall Street as a source of memes and personal meaning. They imagine their heroes are Jordan Belfort "sticking it to the elites," and I have to wonder if they won't feel some kind of cognitive dissonance when they want to use this character in the future, now that DiCaprio has come out against Trump and in support of Harris.

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Narrator: They experienced no cognitive dissonance whatsoever, and things remained unchanged.

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 2 points 2 months ago

I know you're being facetious, but just to be clear for those in the back (since the internet often misunderstands words), you can experience cognitive dissonance and still continue doing the same things afterwards.

It's just that uncomfortable feeling when you are presented with an idea that conflicts with your beliefs about reality. I fully expect they'll figure out how to get past it with some mental gymnastics, a thought-terminating-cliche, or (gasp) accepting reality and recognizing that the character is fictional.

They used a gay actor I to BDSM for anti covid memes, so I dont that sekc reoefction is their strong suite.

[–] TastyWheat@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

..... You right mate? Smelling toast at all?

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Imagine choosing who to vote for, based on who a character from a meme endorses.

Democracy is broken.

Democracy is broken

Democracy has always been an illusion my dude.

If he gets rid of his yacht, I might actually believe that he cares about climate change.

[–] granolabar@kbin.melroy.org 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We dont criticize elites consumption... They are our betters so they deserve to have polluting toys.

[–] JGcEowt4YXuUtkBUGHoN@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 months ago

This is true. Being a job creator is hard work and they should not have to deal with peasant quips and jabs.

[–] Zementid@feddit.nl 12 points 2 months ago

Says the guy who uses private jets, yachts and helicopters.... preach water drink wine.

[–] fubarx@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He has a chance to reach the all-important under-25 demographic.

[–] MayonnaiseArch@beehaw.org 1 points 2 months ago

Oooof heheh

[–] vxx@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Trying to get on the good side before the Diddy case drags him in?

[–] PanArab@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I’m just shocked that this is still up for debate. This year the weather has been erratic to say the least.

Worse even if Democrats win and there are no spoilers in the party (Mnuchin or Sinema), you are still only getting cap and trade which at one point was the Republican plan for climate change before they decided to go to full denialism.

[–] SomeGuy69@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Why do people care what a non politician says about a politician? Stupid person cult fan club behavior.

[–] webadict@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Endorsements have been a thing throughout a lot of human history because we are very social beings. It may sound silly, but some people literally care more what an entertainer says instead of any or all politicians or political experts, and will vote because of it.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Isn't that Trump's entire MO?
