So, I’m a filthy cheat and used PlantNet. It suggests, with a fairly high degree of certainty, that this is Arabian Starflower, which is a cool name.

Amazing. That appears to be spot on! I was using Obsidentify and that one didn't have a clue. And yes, very cool name indeed.

Glad to have helped! I’ve been consistently amazed by this app, it’s really hard to catch it out. I tried really hard walking around an old stately home belonging to an Edwardian plant-hunter, tried it on all kinds of obscure plants and trees from Asia, the Americas and all over. I can’t remember it truly failing. I think it’s backed by a quite lively community of plant nerds - if something really is unusual, the community looks at the photos, and tries to solve it, and then that in turn teaches the app. It’s a great system.

Wow, those two options look damn near identical to me. I wonder what makes it over 70% confident it's one and only 9% confident it's the other.

Beyond me, it’s a great app

gods this made me wince before seeing the other comments as I thought this was hogweed on first glance😬

I'm def glad it's not🤗

Who doesn't put hogweed on flower vases? Such a nice plant.

My plant id app says sun star, ornithigalum dubium

The white flower is supposed to be rare but looks to be a commercially available hybrid. Did you take these from a planted garden or are they wild? If they're wild, unless youre in South Africa, the ID is probably incorrect

[–] KurtVonnegut@mander.xyz 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No unfortunately I simply bought it in a shop in the Netherlands. And forgot the name.

It's probably that then if it was a cut flower

Don't eat it :)

And be careful if you have a cat lilies can be super toxic (even the pollen)

Stalks too long and not the right flower shape.
