Here, for a while at McDonald's there was a πŸ” called "the 1955" and it was the best, big pieces of onion, an special sauce, buns and big piece of beef with bacon (for Europe standards anyways) it disappeared once and came back for an encore only to be removed again and never return.

Taco Bell Choco-Taco. Yeah, the reanimated corpse of it lives on in some gas station frozen sections, but it's a shitty product. The original one sold at Taco Bell in the 90s was god tier.

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I hate to tell you, but even the shitty Choco Tacos were discontinued a few years ago

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

It doesn't matter. They were dead to me a long time ago.

Taco Bell's Volcano Taco. They brought it back for like a month and took it away again. Technically it's still available in Kuwait but I can't get anyone to mail me a bag of the sauce.

I remember the time when Subway used to serve their sandwiches with the strip of bread on top. Those were the good old days.

[–] MikeOToxin@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago (2 children)

You can still get it that way!

Just ask for it 'cut old style'.

[–] refalo@programming.dev 5 points 5 months ago (5 children)

unfortunately most people working at subway now are young, and have no idea what you're talking about.

you can't even order a subway melt anymore without explaining what it is.

Burger King chicken nuggets from the 90s, before the recipe changed to crap. If I had to pick a flavor that I associate with my childhood, this would be it.

The Angus Mushroom & Swiss burger from McDonald's. The Angus was the closest thing they ever had to a real burger, but they were too expensive for most people and were eventually discontinued. Fun fact: wages have stagnated yet their basic burgers now cost more than the Angus did.

The Double Decker taco came back for like a month last year and I went to Taco Bell probably eight times once I realized it because it’s my favorite and I’m super pissed that they won’t just make one for me even though they have all of the ingredients, FFS.

Milk Shakes at just about any fast food restaurants. The machines always seem to be down! Pulled up to an Arby's a few months back to order a Jamoca shake and they said their machine was down. I asked them if I had pulled into the McDonald's drive through by mistake. We all had a big laugh... but that was months ago and they have now put a sticker on the menu that says their shakes are not currently available :(

Went to a Baskin Robins to order a Chocolate Milk shake and they were out of Chocolate ice cream... on multiple occasions. At least they don't have a machine to break down!

For a VERY brief time in 2010, Burger King sold bone-in short ribs.

Guys, those were literally the best fucking short ribs I have had in my life. High end BBQ places couldn't even come close. Every Burger King would sell out like instantly whenever they got a shipment in. And then after 2 months... Gone. Forever.

There was a short lived candybar called PB Max that I’ve been craving for like the last 20 years. It actually tasted like peanut butter which, despite my love for peanut butter cups, just completely outdid them for peanutty goodness.

McDonald's pizza. Technically like 1 location still makes it. It's mostly just a big nostalgia hit for me.

A Rax roast beef sandwich.

Wendy's pitas. When I worked there in the mid-90s, they had pitas that I quite liked.

Now I want fast food, but it's not worth the hour to get to McD's and back.

The way Wendy's fries used to be. pre 2010

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

It was actually the steak bagel breakfast sandwich at McDonalds... until that garbage institution actually brought it back defector! It trned out to be a weaker approximatation with different/less seasoning on meat and different sauce, but close enough for nostalgia

an πŸ”

Going crazy trying to think of what word you use for πŸ” that starts with a vowel.

Oh, and also I used to always get the Santa Fe chicken Gordita at Taco Bell until it went away.

McDonald’s Angus Burger , only burger they sold for several years that didn’t taste like cardboard.

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

It was also the only time I can recall them having a swiss and mushroom burger on the menu. It was delicious.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Two things from Wendy's:

First bring back the old chicken nugget meat. The spicy nuggets taste like trash now.

Second that Jalapeno Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich.

How can no one else miss Taco Bell's naked chicken chalupa? I loved that thing.

And the McRib is missed every time it leaves.

Santa Fe items at Taco Bell. Also the Volcano Nachos.

Carl's Jr. recently discontinued their Beyond Famous Star, which I honestly think tasted better than a regular Famous Star.

Technically, you can still get it, but the 7 layer burrito was my go-to order when I was on the road and forced to have fast food. The Taco Bell in the next town over was right off the highway, so as I would be zipping between patients, it was usually the only realistic option other than a truck stop that had put people in the hospital three times. So, you know, l decided to live, mas or not lol.

There was a point in time where I ended up eating a lot of taco bell. Enough that I'd had everything on their menu at least once, up until 2005. After that, I haven't been able to work, so no zipping around three counties wiping butts, which means no need for fast food except as an occasional thing. So I've lost track of if they've had any temporary stuff or not.

But, yeah, the 7layer was bomb. Like I said, you can still get the same thing by messing around and adding things to other burritos, but that's a pain in the ass for drive through, if you feel me.

Not exactly fast food but kinda junk food, the sugar free lime Red Bull it was so good it was an after work treat I would get myself. Then it just slowly started disappearing from shelves and then they were gone, I would love it if they brought it back. As for fast food double decker tacos at Taco Bell, they had a good long run so I can’t be too disappointed, but miss just being able to go in and buy them when I want.

The original Enchirito. It was fairly large and had more sauce and cheese.

Also the Bell Burger.

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

The Arby's Triple Cheese Melt. I think they stopped making it by the late 90s. Every once in a while it would show up again randomly and go away again a few weeks later but I don't think I've seen one since like 2005

[–] theskyisfalling@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 5 months ago (4 children)

Not "fast food" but a junk food, cadburys used to do a chocolate sponge cake in a tin that was the best. Im not even a massive fan of chocolate but these things were great!

$1.50 JBCs. Not worth the 3.50 they cost now. Used to be bigger and cheaper.

Also, the Arch Deluxe and personal pizzas from McDonald's.

The Mac Jr (1 patty, no middle bun). I used to order it with a small fry. I’m small, so it was the perfect size for me so I could finish everything and not be stuffed.
