I got banned from "World News @ lemmy.ml" because of “Nationalism”, because I argued that especially Europe does not just send weapons to Ukraine, but does also support Ukraine with the injured, with money and with a perspective after the war… My comment got deleted, too…

Does anyone have an explanation or is the mod just some kind of GPT-2 model with a very special understanding of “Nationalism”?

They ban people for wrongthink and use a lot of different words for it. I’ll add nationalism to the list along with yellow peril, orientalism, Sinophobia, jingoism, and bigotry. Just stay off .ml, they aren’t interested in actual discussions

Don't forget the terrible crime of russophobia, which is when you point out the shitty things Russia does. Only "Amerikkka" bad.

In this case the morons at lemmy.ml have likely defined nationalism as "with regard to any nation that isnt communist or previously communist" and "without disagreeable (to tankies) opinion"

[–] awwwyissss@lemm.ee 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They're not actually communists, that's a facade for their propaganda.

Things have definitions. A scotsman is a scottish person, which is why no true scotsman is about claiming someone isn't scottish for their behavior instead of simply their nationality (ignore further issues of self identity etc here).

Communism similarly has a definition and just because you claim to be one doesn't mean you are one. Just like a country isn't a democracy just because it calls itself democratic.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee -2 points 7 months ago

So what is the definition of a communist, that isn’t just “person who declares they are a communist”?

[–] Anyolduser@lemmynsfw.com -4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Sure, but when the Soviets weren't real communists and the Cubans aren't real communists and the Chinese aren't real communists and the Vietnamese aren't real communists and the Cambodians weren't real communists the argument starts to ring just a little bit hollow.

we're talking about the mods on lemmy.ml, not the cuban government

All communist countries i know of went into authoritarianism along the way. There's this weird idea that communism can be implemented through creating an authoritarian state that then abolishes itself, turns out the people in power generally don't want to give it up, who would've thought.

Fwiw I disagree with a lot of assumptions in marxism and some of the conclusions and am overall more of a social capitalist but it's pretty true that there hasn't been a truly communist country yet. But I'm fairly sure the same could be said of true pure capitalism anyway.

It’s the Marxist-Leninist Lemmy instance.

I unsubscribed because they only allow tankie talking points.

I got banned from "World News @ lemmy.ml"

Gee, what else is new?

[–] amio@kbin.social 28 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Getting banned from .ml is ... pretty much expected sooner or later, unless you're a tankie.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 20 points 7 months ago

No, see, it's not that you're a nationalist.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 19 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Spend about 30 minutes learning about "Marxism-leninism" and you'll understand.

If you can't be bothered, just make sure to include a comment about how sexy putin looks riding a bear shirtless or how you want president Xi to step on your balls whenever you post on any lemmy.ml communities.

[–] blahsay@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago

The mods there are notorious

Not strange if you're a mod on lemmy.ml and your goal is to suppress free speech so authoritarian propaganda can thrive.

[–] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 months ago

World News moderation is extremely strict. I'm grateful to the mods for keeping the community sane, but occassionally there'll be a false positive.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago

Sounds like something a nationalist would ask

Whataboutism is indeed popular with Russian bots.
