Why are there liquids in your trash?

[-] rbos@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 months ago

Since we got municipal compost, completely dry and nonstinky garbage. Super nice.

Trash juice is the worst juice.

Pro tip: If you put a few sheets of folded newspaper on the bottom of a garbage bag as a moisture buffer, leakage almost never happens, except you put way too much liquid into your trash and then it´s your own fault.

Or pour out liquids and rinse recyclable containers, creates less smelly trash/recycling

Yes indeed -sorry if I was unclear- that is what I meant when i wrote

except you put way too much liquid into your trash

The folded paper is to buffer the inevitable small amounts of liquid that will accumulate at the bottom and sometimes cause a leak, despite putting in as less liquid as possible.

rinse recyclable containers

Sometimes that's advised against as waste of water. Some garbage systems encourage it though.
