I saw the flower and couldn't resist buying it! It's a hybrid between Paphiopedilum "Fred's Wonder" and Paphiopedilum "Presidential Moon" which are themselves hybrids of hybrids.

I bought it from Emerald City Orchids in Tacoma, Washington.

The only plant I have, had it for about a year. I love this little fucker like you wouldn't believe.

I have three in pots for the first time and never kept them in the house. Any tips?

My wife brought this little fella home in March '22, i was doubtful we could keep it alive. Almost a year and a half later it is truly a beast, almost 4' tall from soil and a 6 gallon pot that's full of roots.

I repotted a Phaelenopsis into fresh bark about a week ago. It's a small plant and evidently doesn't weigh very much, because as the roots are growing, they're pushing the stem of the plant up out of the pot. The tops of the roots are emerging above the bark, too. I realize now I could have pinned it in place while the roots restablished, but too late for that.

Should I repot it again, reburying the roots and pinning it down? Or should I just let it go and not worry about it? I'm inclined towards the latter; after all, new roots grow from up the stem and their tops are inherently exposed above the potting media. So that makes me think it's probably not a big deal for it to be up out of the pot a bit.

Patience is really worth it with these. I didn't even have the opportunity to do anything wrong because the second I got her she lost all her leaves but one and the soil started molding (despite watering her only once). After intense rehabilitation and repeated mold removal she suddenly snapped out of it and came back to life! I really thought she wouldn't make it.

We move every houseplants outside from spring to fall. Does anyone else do this?

More pics and a short video

I design planters that I consider functional art, sometimes I even get it right! But anyway, I started an unrelated conversation on a /r a while back, and someone suggested I design an orchid planter since most of them are super boring. This was my attempt. I hope you like it.

I had a room without much light and wanted to put some plants in there too, so I designed an adapter for my wall planters. It has a drip tray to catch water and a mount for an LED grow light!

Found this little jar at a Wilko in town for £6. Made a perfect little greenhouse for a calathea I saved from going in the bin at a nursery. It's much happier with the higher humidity.

This Philodendron White Wave has been on my wishlist for a while now and my SO surprised me with one 😁

Somehow he can make it bloom every year, sometimes even the local newspaper sends a photographer.

I'm terrible at telling when it's dry until it's totally parched. I'm new to this and really wanna keep the poor little guy alive. Is there a safe interval I can just set a reminder for? It's a small pot, like I can hold it in one hand.

Working from home was a difficult transition for me, but adding plants (and having good light) make all the difference. I thought you folks would approve.

Just out of frame is a monstera I'm pretty proud of (my husband got one at the same time as me, and mine has exploded. His has...not died).

Hi. I'm new (as I think we all are). I tried to join, and the "subscribe" button is just text, it doesn't do anything. Does anyone have the same problem? I'm posting from another instance.

Edit: Got it working. Thanks!
