I’ve always ment for it to be helpful, but I can see it being read rude or passive aggressive. Thank you in advance for your time and your thoughts!

Our university is hosting an AI summit with a student panel, a faculty panel, and attendee participation segments. It would be great to get panel questions, but we really need multiple choice, strongly agree/disagree, and yes/no style clicker questions for the attendees. Remembering they are primarily non-technical, with a wide range of exposure to the topic, what would you ask the crowd?

Lots of people are feeling hopeless and upset right now, and for good reason. It's normal to feel like no matter what you do, things are going to get much worse for a lot of people. Blame, despair and anger are natural reactions, but as the shock of the situation dulls, what's your plan going forward?

Call me naive, but seeing hate have a resurgence makes me want to do more to help the people that are going to suffer the most. I'm going to make a plan to volunteer more of my time and resources to help organizations that need it. I'm going to see if my friends can organize with me to sponsor a migrant family. I may not be able to do much, but my personal way of coping with shitty situations is to try to make the world a little less shitty.

I'm going to try to be kinder and more forgiving with people, and be a better role model for my kids. And I'm going to resist and fight back against hate when I see it.

Lastly, I'm going to be a more supportive friend to the people in my life. And to anyone reading this that feels like this world's gone insane, and you're all alone: you're not. We're still in this together, and I appreciate everything you're doing.

How do you "Do as as I say, not as I do"?

One of my friends just attempted suicide like 30 minutes ago. Thankfully he's alive (I know bc he texted in the gc, and he didn't say it like a joke) but I'm not really sure what to do. I told him I'm free to talk if he needs to (I am not able to go see him in person) and another friend who lives near him said about the same. We also had another mutual friend commit suicide not that long ago. What do I do?

I want to invest in some crypto, I know that this requieres ID verification usually. Is https://www.kraken.com/ a good website for investing? Because I don't really want to send my ID to some dudes on the internet. Thank you

If I could only learn one additional language, and I wanted to travel the world, what language would serve me best other than English or Spanish?

Recently started using mail merge.
Combined it with some vba scripting(didn't learn it well, just found some scripts on the net and modified them a bit) so that I could get pdf files for emailing by clicking a macro button from an excel sheet.

Also, go to use the info about the keyboard mouse right click button when someone's Right Mouse Button was not working. https://www.online-tech-tips.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Windows-Right-Click-Button.jpg

I mentioned only computer things because of recency, but please do share your experiences in other topics too.

A general outline would suffice, just trying to get a sense of the scale

For me, a few come to mind:

  • "You're imagining everybody in this story way more attractive than they actually were."

It was posted somewhere on one of those spicy subreddits under some affair threesome story. And it sort if clicked with me. Like look around, normal people on the street don't all look like supermodels. And supermodels don't lurk around in reddit comment sections. It really put things into perspective for me.

  • "Life isn't short, it's the longest thing you'll ever do."

It is a bit uplifting to realize that no matter if you have bad or good period in your life, it is only a short chapter contained in the longest time period possible for you to experience.

There were a few others that I probably can't remember of the top of my head right now.

I know we're all feeling doom and gloom but can we get a thread of some wins/good news from last night?

I want to make a satirical poster, but the generators I tried kept putting an image that looked nothing like the person. I see so many of these I thought it was trivial to make one. And I totally support it clearly saying it was AI generated. Not trying to fool anyone, just want to make a joke. Edit: not looking to edit a photo. Just want to make a political meme.

We hear about the freakouts, the verbal lashings, the accidents and many more.
But what are some small things, things that have little consequence but are still infuriating or that drive you up the wall?
Here are some examples of my own:

  1. People flocking to the metro doors without leaving proper space for people to leave.
  2. Hearing the same 3 questions at work every time.
  3. People walking slow enough to pass but not letting you.

I’ve just bought a new fridge and it comes with a section to hold eggs. I’ve never stored them in the fridge since salmonella isn’t really a problem here because our chickens are vaccinated. Does anybody in the UK actually refrigerate their eggs?

As an aside, I tend to decide what goes into the fridge based on where it was in the supermarket. If they don’t refrigerate it, neither do I. So for eggs, I don’t.

Secondary question - what am I gonna use the egg holder in the fridge for now, other than maybe briefly cooling my balls?

The last time Trump won, there was this constant barrage of scandals and frankly horrifying news permeating my online experience. And while I admit that from my European perspective, there was some entertainment in the whole thing, the experience was more exhausting than anything else.

I like to keep up with the news, but I also like my mental health. Are there any effective strategies for keeping the amount of trump-spam I’m exposed to at an absolute minimum, while also keeping up with whatever else is going on in the world?

Yeah I'm not paying attention to that election shit till tomorrow. If I'm tempted I'll remember I have to stir my chilli.

I'd love to know any tips or suggestions you all have for homemade "no way in hell I'm watching that shit right now" chilli.

Gonna slowly simmer for 4 hours stirring every 5 minutes. Adding cocoa to the mix as I've heard it helps

any piece of advice is welcome

P.S. Thanks to all the people that have taken their time to help me (and not just me, but others as well). It is much appreciated, and, from what I‘ve read, the „cold turkey“ method seems the most appealing to me. I‘ll quit smoking today, on the 7th of November 2024.

I was just watching PBS Eons about a housecat sized beaver like animal all the way back in the Mesozoic. The thought crossed my mind that it would be interesting if there was a Wikipedia type project for the Universe, Galaxy, Solar system, and Earth. I should be able to see how anything fits into the big picture timeline at a glance.

We should have a culture of nerds that extend beyond the written words of a Wiki. Forget the prestige of some elitist overpriced rag journal that acts as an outdated class and learning barrier in the present, only functioning as a makeshift poor quality reputation filter in the present. I want to see visual timelines where filling in some detail is an expected accomplishment within academia.

As I'm writing this I realized, this connects to how I perceive video based audio/visual information as the primary form of human communication. I think the next evolutionary step in teaching and studies is to forego the lecturer in favor of recorded media of empirically meritorious achievement compiled and tailored to each individual's abilities. Along this line of thought, a scientific discovery should include an expectation to not only add to a public visual timeline archive, but to link the information in a way that teaches and connects the information to the world at large.

I guess I'm saying Science needs a cartographic like department/element where the figurative tree of branching knowledge is strengthened instead of independent niches on an ever expanding fractal edge of exploration. Publishing on the tree should be the driver of meritorious achievement instead of a redundant paper media subscription rag like the present. Reputation shouldn't be limited to a few peers but instead showcased on a world stage that is as messy as reality but beautiful in aggregate. Publishing should involve an obligation to educate effectively where those that are limited in this skill are incentivised to add coauthors that are far more capable of effective communication. Persons with curiosity and time should be capable of freely navigating from what they know in the present to the messy edge of fringe science without any financial or circumstantial limitations in our digital age.

Does anything like this exist yet?
