FBI should care more about Epstein's friends instead of having fun with digital books

It's a daunting battle to fight, and it's disheartening to see that even when we try to discuss these issues, many people are quick to dismiss our concerns.

You said it all.

Whether we like Richard Stallman or not, we cannot deny that it started (in part) with the "I don't care" and the denigration of free software.

Education systems around the world have failed to promote free software as an IT basis and vigilance against proprietary software lobbies.

My opinion is that after being conditioned by their environment most people have already given up on their privacy, so mass surveillance does not bother them that much...

This is called backpedaling.

The problem is there are too few decision-makers who listen to scientists, or electoral pressure prevents them from taking more radical measures, or they are influenced by lobbyists, or...

I'm still blaming the MIT for that !

A new analysis by the World Weather Attribution (WWA) network of scientists found warming driven by the use of fossil fuels had exacerbated the flooding in Sudan. The researchers also said climate change would have made this year's torrential rains around five to 20 percent more intense across the Niger and Lake Chad basins, citing a previous WWA study of similar floods in 2022.

Global warming is not just about rising temperatures -- the extra heat trapped in the atmosphere and seas has knock-on effects and can result in more intense downpours and storms. The researchers said there was a clear link between the extreme rainfall and a warming planet.

The scientists used modelling to compare weather patterns in our world and one without human-induced warming, and found that month-long spells of intense rainfall in parts of Sudan had become heavier and more likely due to climate change. At the current 1.3 degrees Celsius of warming, they said similar periods of rainfall are expected to occur on average about once every three years, and have become about 10 percent heavier due to climate change.

The role of climate change in the floods was compounded by other human-made problems, the researchers said, and they called for better maintenance of dams and investment in early warning systems.

I have a copy of this book, I confirm the high quality of it, both in terms of visual appearance and scientific popularization !

[–] xiao@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago

That's standard procedure.

Thanks to let me know that !

The same process would've been done after a murder with a gun.

The connection with the murder by firearm was not made on the process but on the greater ease in general for the defense to defend a murderer who committed murder with a car during a trial. And the ease with which one can premeditatedly kill with a car and make it look like an accident.

On an unrelated note, I did downvote the whole article because you tacked your opinion onto it.

No problem, downvote anything you want !

A driver who ran over a cyclist following an altercation in central Paris has been charged with murder in a case that shocked the capital.

The 52-year-old driver of the SUV is accused of having deliberately targeted the cyclist, who was named as Paul Varry, 27.

According to witnesses, the driver, trying to make progress on the congested road, steered his car onto the adjacent cycling path for about 200 metres (650 feet), where he drove over the cyclist's foot, prosecutors said.

Varry, the cyclist, banged his fist on the bonnet of the car to alert the driver, who backed up at first. Varry then stood in front of the car expressing his anger at the driver, who started driving towards him.

-_-...

An autopsy showed that Varry's lethal injuries had been caused by the car.

No joke !

CCTV footage showed the vehicle rising once when the left front tyre rolled over the body, and then again when the back tyre went over.

A test for alcohol and drugs came back negative.

The man's lawyer, Franck Cohen, told AFP that his client "has no explanation for what happened".

lol, good defense.

Hey now look at that 👇

A judge will now rule whether he should be held in custody ahead of trial.

-_-

You wanna commit murder ?!

Forget about gun, just by a big shitty car.

Society will forgive you faster.

Fuck cars forever

Telegram was built to protect activists and ordinary people from corrupt governments and corporations — we do not allow criminals to abuse our platform or evade justice.

Criminals according to what standard ? In some countries, activism or sympathy with a cause is considered criminal behavior.

Evade justice ?? What justice is he talking about? The justice of the United States of America, Chinese justice, or the justice of the nationalities he possesses?

Better to avoid this platform

So funny 😂. I really thought it was fake.

Recently I decided to start writing a science fiction novel. I reserved a desk in my room for this purpose, I also picked up an old Thinkpad X200 on which I installed Lubuntu 24.04 and plugged in a gaming keyboard for night writing. I chose to install a minimum of applications in order to stay focused.

My main writing App for the moment is Joplin

And you?

Are you writing a book or have you already written one?

What type of tool do you use to write?

Do you have some advice to share?

This site contains the mathematical archives of Alexander Grothendieck from 1949 to 1991. There you will find manuscripts, "typescripts", sometimes printed documents, in a classification essentially faithful (when it existed) to the author's classification . Of the 28,000 (approximately) pages in this collection, only 18,000 (approximately) are currently accessible

I hope some of us will benefit from his knowledge.

Once I read that it could be good to have 2 helmets.

  • One to deal with freezing/cold temperatures
  • One to deal with hot/warm temperatures

I guess that both types can be used for cooler temperatures.

What is you opinion about that ?

Do you have some suggestions of helmets, some models you like, or even different advices to share with us ?

Please let us know the reason !

The art of scientific prediction has seeped into every aspect of our lives, influencing our habits and perspectives. Weather, transport, space conquest, architecture and even agriculture: our daily lives are inextricably linked to forecasts. In this first season, Cédric Villani takes us into the thrilling story of the invention of differential equations, calling on Isaac Newton, Christian Huygens, Leonhard Euler, Henri Poincaré...

Very nice vulgarization !
