I suspect retrofitting a whole new identity system to Fediverse will never happen because server admins, or instance admins, will come up with all kinds of reasons why they don't like the idea of not knowing who their users are. Some of them would probably allow it, but I bet a whole bunch of them wouldn't, and we'd get into this fragmentation where some servers won't allow posts from those types of identity, etc. It seems to me much easier to take Nostr and just give it the functionality you get inside the Fediverse.

Agreed, but that is exactly how NOSTR identity works, and the reason I think NOSTR is such a great protocol.

You realize you're describing Nostr right?

This has a lot more to do with consumption than with production. Most of these islands are small, and it's unrealistic for them to have large populations or a heavy tourist industry without desalination plants. Energy needs to become cheap, and honestly, wind farms and solar can help with this.

I don't really care if content I create is used to train LLMs, but I do object to Reddit monetizing the content I placed on their platform. Without somehow rewarding me for that content. I'd rather just post it here and let the LLMs train on it and let the value accumulate to the LLMs. I do think there's a greater good for humanity. And just because I say something intelligent or unintelligent, I see that as a gift to the greater good of society. I did not create that gift as a benefit to Reddit shareholders but having said all this I’m realistic, and the best thing I can do is try to keep the value I add within open platforms like this one.

We all need to move on from this, including myself. We know Reddit's business practice. If we don’t like it help make the fediverse better. Having said that your posts will be scrapped over here to the benefit of nobody so is that better? At least on Reddit you have the option of owning their stock.

How is nostr promoting crypto?

[-] vamp07@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

I agree. I also notice a constant push to ban anything that is deemed offensive, which in most cases is just a statement of opinion that someone did not like.

Nostr is ultimately the way forward and he knows it. Nobody controlling your identity other than yourself.

Do we know they are monitoring our usage of the launcher?

[-] vamp07@lemm.ee 1 points 5 months ago

I just came in here, looking for these exact questions and was about to post them when I saw this thread

Marking posts as read also sync to the server? I know this was an issue in the past because it couldn’t be done as a batch? I know I posted some thing about this topic along time ago, and that was the answer.

I am also looking forward to doing community specific searches.

I have pro on both and like both. Is there some criteria others have used in the past to pick their favorite? They seem so similar to me. Does one have a killer feature the other does not?

I think it's a mistake to sort the favorite communities above the three main choices of everything subscribed and local.

If I want to hide read posts, what causes something to be read? It does not seem to be just scrolling by it as in other similar apps.

I played around a bit with sync on android. Is there any CLIENT for iOS with a similar level of feature richness?

I have been using Raycast with its integrated AI spell checking and I am completely impressed with the results. I would love to find an equivalent solution for iOS. When I look in the App Store, there are so many options and many of them are overly expensive. I wish I could find out if there is a consensus on a clear winner. One with the ability to create your own saved prompts would be ideal.

Paid Servers? (lemm.ee)

Are there any paid services for either Lemmy or Mastodon? Something where, given it is a subscription service, you would expect them to stick around long-term?

I’m constantly running into multiple groups that address the same subject. It would be nice if I could combine those so I saw all the posts in one place. For example, all the forums that are discussing UAPs it would be cool to just look at a single thing that combined them all.
