Count the dots to guess the word in Brailliance, a unique puzzle game which combines braille, spelling, and simple arithmetic into an experience you can't find anywhere else. No knowledge of braille is required to play, though you will certainly learn some as you go.

Brailliance is beautiful and addicting, consisting of a fun daily puzzle and over 1,500 levels with increasing challenge. Additionally, the game can be played if you're blind! Brailliance supports all screen readers and refreshable braille displays. But whether you're blind or sighted, figuring out the braille alphabet is exciting along the way.

Brailliance is available right now for free on the Apple App Store, Google Play, and on the web at ThemisGames.com.

Join the Brailliance native app beta!

iOS TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/PSwzeHVM

Android Beta: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.exceptionullgames.brailliance

We are testing app versions of Brailliance, our new game where you count braille dots to guess the word. This version incorporates a ton of your feedback from the web version of the game, all while benefiting from the advantages of being a native app.

To download the beta on iOS TestFlight, download Apple's TestFlight app on the App Store. Once you do, you can follow the link above and TestFlight will allow you to register for early access. Once you do, you can find a download button for Brailliance directly within the TestFlight app.

To download the beta on Android, so long as you have Google Play, follow the link above and tap "Become a Tester." After a moment, you'll see a link to access Brailliance on the Google Play store.

We're particularly interested in the impressions of VoiceOver and TalkBack users on phones and tablets. Brailliance supports a lot of ways to play, from standard web-style navigation to Perkins input via braille displays and the on-screen braille keyboard. The game also supports keyboards on most devices.

HOW TO PLAY:

Type a word to make a guess. The correct word will contain the number of braille dots shown.

As you make guesses, you will be told which letters are in the word and which letters are not. These "green" letters can be anywhere in the word.

Try to guess the word in as few guesses as possible. However, you get unlimited guesses. Also, you can guess any word up to the correct number of dots, but not over it.

Use your math skills to figure out which letters are likely to be in the answer. For instance, if you know all of the correct letters except one, and that you need three more dots to complete the word, that last letter must be a three-dot braille letter.

That experimental flag is frustrating. I ran a quick test to see if it would honor the w3 dark mode guidelines and it doesn't seem to on my test devices. Our game already asks the browser for the system theme preference and assigns dark mode accordingly. The flag set to force CSS changes might just never be compatible.

@renard_roux@beehaw.org Sorry for the late reply. That was a doozy of a feedback response and we've been busy working through it.

I admit I did indeed have to find and replace all the acronyms for me to understand it fully. Haha!

We've gone and made a radical tweak to the gameplay, both directly and indirectly addressing your concerns along the way. Players can now make guesses below the dot sum requirement. This makes getting started on a level much easier, though you are still required to bunker down and do the math on your final answer. We'd love to know what you think about it.

We've also gone ahead and implemented optional starting hints, giving an example word of the correct dot length on the first turn of each level.

Also at your behest, a sound now plays for invalid words immediately upon reaching the correct number of dots. We will probably expand this to other interactions as well, and I still have to work out Safari's weird screen reader timing on iPhones.

As for your remaining feedback, I am currently setting up new features as A/B tests we can run and see what works best. Internally, we still like the freedom this design gives the player compared to something like Wordle, and we want to keep that identity alive wherever it suits the gameplay. We think the new changes go some way toward that goal.

Keep the feedback coming! This is great!

I was making a braille learning app when I came up with this game idea. You count the braille dots to guess the word. https://www.themisgames.com/brailliance/menu

Do you think it's too hard? I want to experiment with ways to make it easier. I'm also actively working to add more iOS-specific VoiceOver support with a native app. Perhaps make the perkins input easier.

lol. I thought I did post it to main. Shows how much I know about how this site works, huh. I'll try to figure out how to do that.

Wordvoyance is finally released worldwide and supports VoiceOver and TalkBack on mobile. It's the world's first scrabble app that blind and sighted people can play together. No ads, and includes single player and multiplayer game modes.
