I just hope nothing "extra" gets tacked on....

Too many top linux answers are gone now and i dont really find reddit very usefull for finding answers to linux problems anymore unless its a brand new problem with alot of people suddenly posting about it.

I cant say they won all around. As a tech guy, now when i look up tech info and click on a reddit link 90% of the top answers are deleted(including all mine from the last 12 years).

Before the exidus, Reddit was already a painful hassle to use, unable to view many normal subreddits now, 80% of my screen taken up by login and cookie warnings, forcing logins, asking if you want the app multiple times. Slow, clunky, broken UI.

IF i want to give info to the Reddit people, i only post links to topics over on Lemmy.

As Steam keeps breaking things for Linux(all for their stupid chromium UI overhaul) its been really hard to use VR unfortunatly.

Last resort: Try uninstalling steam and delete all steam related files(except the folder with all you downloaded games), delete all Steam and VR related files in .config and .local. This is as much of a fresh start as you can get and it should work. Use latest ALVR nightly.

I only just now saw this post, the last month i have already been going all out to learn everything that i need for my Security+ (then CySec+) i have a 30hr video course im part way thorugh, and ive set up a few VMs with various servers like OWASP Security Shepherd and Dam Vunurable Web App for some more hands on experience as well as testing on my personal production Nextcloud and Jellyfin servers and ive been having alot of fun with it all, i think im pretty solid with DHCP and subnetting already through my home networking adventures. I will look into each of those other Certs and each thing you mention to learn thank you! Ive been deep into various Linux systems since about 2008 and im hoping to leverage that as much as i can(although its left me with a lack of modern Windows experience).

Thank you so much for all the tips! I feel some good things coming as im getting into this as work.

Search for Github SpotDL And Navidrome

No need to sail them seas, but maybe still use a vpn, just on case. Fun fact i heard from a friend of a friend: Youtube starts rate limiting after 50,000 audio-only video downloads, until you have a new IP.

There are several problem with this including total lack of SSL without the proper cert for that other domain, also Lemmy.ml's IP seems to be running a reverse proxy so the internal IP that we would want to connect to is not visible to the world this is common for web security, the owners must set allowed domains and ports in their config file.

If none of that was a problem Lemmy itself does not do well with changing domains, as highlighted here: https://lemmy.nrd.li/comment/190200

Well that sounds like my dream job, unfortunately this issue in particular is more of a Lemmy problem, not a DNS problem. See: https://lemmy.nrd.li/comment/190200 for the explanation of why you cant just transfer domains with Lemmy.

If you have trouble setting controller bindings within SteamVR you can point your browser to localhost:27062/dashboard/controllerbinding.html to set your controller settings.

Pop OS 22.04 (Ubuntu) Very playable on both a NVIDIA GTX 970 and GTX 3060.

Steam has been undergoing many changes lately, things may break in the future, try switching between beta and non beta if things dont work, this works for me as of July 13th 2023. I will keep this thread up to date as i use VR on Linux

Yea ive been thinking of getting a different account for here as ive used sol87 for years, this is a public area so big tech and others can still scrape our data from here for maintaining their "advertiesing" profiles or whatever else they do with our data.

I considered Skype shut down as soon as Microsoft bought it and broke it. I didnt wait around to see what turd they finally reshaped it into.

Actually....doing this is great for security and privacy. Especially for more sensitive logins. Use a password manager.
