As a reminder, current estimates are that quantum cracking of a single 2048-bit RSA key would require a computer with 20 million qubits running in superposition for about eight hours. For context, quantum computers maxed out at 433 qubits in 2022 and 1,000 qubits last year. (A qubit is a basic unit of quantum computing, analogous to the binary bit in classical computing. Comparisons between qubits in true quantum systems and quantum annealers aren't uniform.) So even when quantum computing matures sufficiently to break vulnerable algorithms, it could take decades or longer before the majority of keys are cracked.

The upshot of this latest episode is that while quantum computing will almost undoubtedly topple many of the most widely used forms of encryption used today, that calamitous event won’t happen anytime soon. It’s important that industries and researchers move swiftly to devise quantum-resistant algorithms and implement them widely. At the same time, people should take steps not to get steamrolled by the PQC hype train.

I'm guessing you don't watch South Park

It's the difference between those for whom leftism is an aesthetic and those who want material progress. Those who value the aesthetic can't bear to compromise their aesthetic by voting for Harris, while those who care about people's material conditions and doing work to actually make progress do vote for her.

Telegram users have never had privacy. Group chats are completely in the open and private messages are only encrypted if both users turn it on for each conversation—and it's off by default. I've never understood why anyone thinks Telegram is any better than posting anywhere else on the internet.

Cluster munitions are bad when you're an invading army bc some of the explosives fail to fire, endangering civilians who come across them later. Ukraine, however, is using them on its own territory to combat russia who 1) is already using cluster munitions with a greater fail rate than the ones the US is providing Ukraine, and 2) deliberately mines the areas they invade in a way to kill civilians (e.g. setting up a mine to explode if you try to move the corpse of a beloved family dog). So in this case, using the US's cluster munitions to get russia out is a net positive.

There's a preprint paper out that claims to prove that the technology used in LLMs will never be able to be extended to AGI, due to the exponentially increasing demand for resources they'd require. I don't know enough formal CS to evaluate their methods, but to the extent I understand their argument, it is compelling.

I have tried--the instructions are woefully inadequate. I tried following them to build Ventoy and had to make numerous modifications just to get the first couple of components to build. At that point I gave up

After I saw that issue, I attempted to build Ventoy from source. After making numerous modifications and getting only the first couple components built, I got tired of it and quit. I've made some modifications to glim and use that instead, although it's still not as easy as Ventoy. But I don't trust Ventoy if I can't build it myself.

Further, when @vkc@linuxmom.net made some criticisms of Ventoy in one of her YouTube videos, she was subjected to a harassment campaign, and others told her the same happened to them. That pushed me from not trusting Ventoy to actively distrusting it.

Then the likely outcome of your actions is at odds with your stated goal of forcing the two major parties to shift their platforms over time.

AIPAC is funded by Israel, Republicans, and Democrats, so you can't draw any strong conclusions about party affiliation from involvement in AIPAC alone. Further, AIPAC isn't the only, or even the biggest, donor to Biden and Harris, so claiming they're "bought and paid for" strains credulity.

MAGA isn't solely characterized by Zionism, and not all Zionists are MAGA, so going from "Zionism" to "MAGA" is an unsubstantiated leap.

Finally, receiving donations from a death cult does not make one part of a death cult. Morally reprehensible? Yes.
