What happens if majority of Americans vote for one party and majority of states vote for the other? Would there indefinite deadlock between the [Executive + House of Representatives] vs [The Senate]? in c/nostupidquestions@lemmy.world

I've been thinking this is the solution to a number of problems (e g. high COL). The problem is that the popular states are popular for a reason
