This is all on the open web. If they find it useful to create surveillance profiles of fediverse users they will do so, whether we defederate or not. That’s the current price of being on the internet.

Hopeful the fediverse has enough built-in resilience that Meta’s intention don’t matter and can be safely ignored

Can't overstate how great they are if you hate flossing.

Support for Biden's student loan cancellation is for most a political calculation, where people who would be for more robust measures to make college affordable support it as a partial measure, a step in the right direction. A common right wing tactic is to stymie left wing political priorities to the point where asking questions like this seems reasonable, even though the asker is often being disingenuous and would be against any affordable college plan that increased government spending or in which the government played an otherwise larger role. If this commenter wasn't being disingenuous, they had the unfortunate plight of absorbing a lot of built-up frustration over this tactic haha

This is the one I’ve found most helpful, especially the last chapter:

I don’t know if it helped me mask better, but it made neurotypical behavior seem less confusing and more predictable.

Feel like they could have rolled with it

I like those normies. It makes reddit feel a little more representative of the real world instead of the exclusive domain of cloistered nerds (I say that as a cloistered nerd). I’m here because federation is a better long term option for social media. I hope we can lure the normies over here too one day.

I wish tech companies would do this more. Put a warning or label on it if you have to, but interacting with that early version of the Bing chatbot was the most fun I had with tech in awhile. You don’t have to install a ton of guardrails on everything before it goes out to the public.
