Usually parents have to sign a technology contract before a device is issued. As a teacher I also have to sign one before I’m issued a school device. I hate using a Chromebook but in my situation I am prohibited from bringing my own device other than a cell phone and I travel from room to room and it’s the only reliable way I can update grades and assign things on Google Classroom.

I don’t have anything personal on it (including my password manager add on) and since the contract prohibits me from installing or using any unapproved software on the device I’m stuck with Chrome and incognito mode blocked.

In a previous district, the admin had GoGuardian installed for us to use with the students. What they didn’t tell us was they installed it on all teacher laptops and desktops so they could make sure we were not doing anything unapproved during work hours.

Schools are a privacy nightmare for both students and staff.

I used the domain for my job as a teacher, mostly for redirecting complicated links into simple ones my students could remember. It was easier for my elementary students at the time to memorize my redirect than trying to navigate to the links section on our online classroom.

I never did anything that would be against any TOS, but when I went to login about a month before renewal I was locked out. Support never responded, and I gave up after reading that many people had the problem and were unsuccessful in regaining access to their domain. I didn’t try to take it back because shortly after it expired I changed grade levels and the domain would no longer make sense in my new position.

I used them for a domain and everything was great until it wasn’t. Without warning I couldn’t access my account. Correct login info and was kicked back as incorrect. Support wasn’t responsive, and I recall reading similar stories at the time. I ended up not able to renew my domain and I lost it.

I sympathize with you, as this is where I’m at as well. I’ve lost that battle. Everything is Google, Snapchat, and Facebook.

This browser is helpful on iOS because it can run Firefox or chrome extensions. Ublock origin works great. I don’t see any ads.

Thank you for this list! I found several add-ons I never knew I was missing

This is where I’m at. If I push it any more, she will turn off wifi on her phone and complain.

I’ve tried getting her to move to my hosted email instead of gmail, but she refused. She’s been wanting an Alexa speaker and even has the kids on board. That’s where most of my energy goes for picking my battles at this stage.

Gotta protect workers from those woke businesses that provide water breaks!

I use DuckDuckGo at home, but at work it’s blocked. I’ve argued for it to be unblocked but to no avail. I use Startpage at work because it appears to have the same results as Google but also lets you view images anonymously when possible.
