Power captures power. Money is a form of power, but there are many forms and the powerful tend to try to grab more power no matter the situation.

Yeah, something productive!

Perforated galvanized plumbers strapping. While most of my equipment is wall mountable, I used exactly this sort of thing for all the power supplies.

Likely similar to whatever you're planning to use with the plastic strap, but more metal is more betterer

I'll spoil it for everyone instead then!

Behold. Everything's at the bottom of the sea. Gone is the magical kingdom of Zeal, and all the dreams and ambitions of its people. I once lived there...But I was another person then.

And everything else in the damn game.

You think that's all they produced?

For real, at some point you gotta go "bored now!" And actually do something.

If people decentralize and stop hopping on the biggest few instances, that'll help a lot.

People can then just hang out on smaller instances and federate to other communities, and the load will be spread out a lot more.

I watched the godfather for the first time a few months ago.

It might still be playing.

The computer subsystem and the display subsystem are different, largely independent things. Regardless of what your computer is doing, the system that transports data between the video chip and the LCD will always be sending that data at 60 frames per second. It doesn't care what your CPU is doing, it's a bunch of separate independent pieces of hardware. Meanwhile, the rest of your computer is doing the game logic and rendering the frames and sending them to the video memory and that could be happening at any frame rate. Your screen will always be running at 60 hertz, but you could have anything from one frame per second to 3000 frames per second and that just refers to the number of times per second you are updating the frame buffer with new data.

Some video games have a setting called vsync, and what that does is it will limit updating the frame buffer to do so only once while the screen is showing one frame. The benefit of doing this is if you are updating your frame buffer in the middle of drawing a frame, you can have it where half the frame is the previous frame and half of the frame is the next frame, this is called tearing because it looks like the screen is being torn in half.

"no" followed by 28 null characters and a small code payload that'll crash their server (ok won't work but it'd be funny)

A tale of Beowulf, Bairn of Ecgthew

aethling of the Geats, firey focus of fable.

Victories many, bought with bounty of blood.

Twin monsters, Grendel's mother and her child

in the Scylding's land, brought low by sin

Time's riverbed, flows fleetingly fast

Until old king Beowulf, Bairn of Ecgthew

starcross'd lord, dreaded day of his death

faced a dragon, and greatest of god's geats

slew it quickly, protecting his land.

Ancient tale, fable of forefathers

of ancient prose, dense deep and dire.

Modern readers, ancient knowledge gone

will struggle much, History held in the heorot

cannot help them, since a heorot they lack.

thus unendowed, no strength for sound struggle

Will then fail, no meaning to them.

Knowledge of the past, if that ye seek

so ye desire, long lost lore

read knowing well, a challenging battle

Hazy and difficult, to enlighten yourself

but expect not, golden rings from the lord

facing the challenge, of this ancient tale.

I saw it today when I was fixing my xmpp server...

I recall mqtt being a standard for getting measurements from iot devices?

So is it for sending data...or receiving... Both? Neither? Am I fundamentally misunderstanding what mqtt is?

I had checked the box and couldn't figure out why it thought I had 2 notifications when I had none showing, and eventually I realized a bot responded to my posts.

On one hand, after backlash from making Dylan Mulvaney a brand ambassador, Bud Light is down to 14th place from 1st place in sales. On the other, Mike Lindell is selling factory equipment because his company got canceled so bad after backing Trump.

You know, I'm pretty OK if companies just get tf out of politics. I don't want to have to think about what brand of pillow or running shoe or beer or whatever says about who I'd vote for in a general election. It's hard enough choosing the best product for the best price without adding an entire arbitrary dimension on top of that.

It really reminds me of a comment from Fight club. What does your sofa say about you as a person? Except now it's What does the brand of some fungible product say about you as a person?

True story here: the reason companies pretend to care about this stuff is that a 2015 study showed that 70% of millennials claimed they would be more likely to pay more for a brand that had supported causes, and in 2014, Pew research found that millennials were more liberal and less conservative – on social views, millennials were 60% to say their views became more liberal. Therefore, to court those buyers companies supported causes, and they supported liberal/left causes.

But you know what? 25 years ago the opposite was true, and the religious right was the dominant cultural force and they were the ones leaning on the scale to get companies to pretend they care about their causes.

But they're companies. They don't care about any political cause, it's just a marketing gimmick. Whoever you are and whatever you support, they'll use you until they think they can't make more money off of you then they'll dump you.

Seems odd that if you win by 0.001% that's treated the same as if you win by 50%. "You barely won, here's the same mandate as someone who won soundly"

Probably a bad idea, but there's an idea in there that isn't dumb.

The Fediverse is a massive place with many different software platforms that have different goals but share their support of the ActivityPub protocol.

Twitter Clone

  • mastodon
  • pleroma
  • soapbox

Youtube Clone

  • peertube

Instagram Clone

  • pixelfed

Facebook Clone -Friendica

Blogging Platforms

  • writefreely
  • wordpress

Book sites

  • bookwyrm

Music sites

  • funkwhale

and if you're really stretching the definition then perhaps chat services like matrix (though matrix doesn't use activitypub).

According to one of my favorite sources on the matter, https://the-federation.info/ the fediverse has about 2M active users.

The "threadiverse" consists mostly of the reddit clones. It includes lemmy and kbin, and in more limited extents lotide (It fits the bill but has challenges with federation) and parts of friendica as well as possibly a.gup.pe.

This is just a small taste of all the different projects out there. For a lot of people they might not like one thing but they might like others. Decentralization is strength on the fediverse.

Since I couldn't find any in a quick search, I created a homeschooling community on my instance since I want a place to post if I see anything particularly interesting.

It feels like simulations and simulacra; The song was written in nostalgia for a long gone game console, and today I'm listening with nostalgia to a song that's almost as old now as the game console was then.
