Yes there's a number on the dropdow and yes they disappear when you open the article and view the comments.

It's just a performance issue, I've had delays getting my notifications too.
If it's a fairly bitesize standalone packet of info I'll do a post. If it's in depth or meant trigger a self-contained discussion I'll do an article.

Just a thought on the description field where you have said...
Description are short blurbs that you can use to describe your magazine. This part is self-explanatory, so I won’t go to deep on this one.
I am almost certain that the magazine search feature references the description field, which I why I have made sure to put keywords in the description field of both of the subs I moderate. I've tested it a couple of times so it might be worth mentioning here.
