And that's the whole ideology of ABA, to get rid of certain behaviors as if the reason people were doing those behaviors was simply because they couldn't understand that they shouldn't do them. Stimming isn't just pointless disruption, it's an important tool for self-regulation. Limited speaking isn't just a refusal to communicate, it's an actual difficulty with the medium of spoken word. Beating these traits out of people, either figuratively or literally, doesn't solve the underlying issues that affect their internal experience and their happiness.

Sorry for ranting at you, I just get so mad about this topic.

My mother was a special education teacher, and she saw my stimming and sensory issues and decreed them to be a problem because I'd never be "normal" (and I use the term loosely). "You're so smart! You can't have any issue with anxiety! Lights are that bright for everyone, and no one else complains! Figure it out!"

I was in special ed and the teachers were like that there too. It's so frustrating how the people with the most power over autistic people's lives are so often the people who understand us the least.

One downside of a formal diagnosis is that it might make it harder to move to some countries. But if you're already in Canada then that shouldn't be too much of a concern.

But vegetables and fruits are so inconsistent. You never know what the texture is going to be until you bite into them. Every blueberry or apple has the potential to be mushy, or sour, or unpleasant in any number of other ways. Consistency is solely the domain of grain.

I don't think it's likely that there is a minimum volume, at least not a discrete quantized one. It would have to be a [regular honeycomb tessellation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honeycomb_(geometry)) that shows no bias towards any particular direction (i.e. no corners). There are no shapes that fulfill both of those conditions in 3D space.

The government should just pass a law banning capitalism and then we wouldn't have to worry about strikes at all, but that's also never going to happen.

That doesn't mean it's a bad idea, just that it's too extreme by the standards of US politics. Unions here often still need basic protections like the right to strike at all in the first place. Check out the rules against teachers striking in Texas, they'd be banned from public sector work and lose their pensions. The only way they could possibly go on strike is with a vast enough majority to force the state government to repeal those rules.

Electrolytes are chemicals that can ionize to carry current. Table salt is one electrolyte, but potassium and magnesium salts are also required by the human body. Nerves work by sending electrical signals, so they need these electrolytes in order for them to carry those signals throughout the body. The problem is, the amount of electrolytes available to nerves depends on the amount present in the bloodstream, and when sweat glands pull water out of the bloodstream, they also take some electrolytes with it. That's why you need to replenish them after sweating. If you don't, your nerves won't work as well and your muscles will have a hard time coordinating. The specific ions you need to organize muscle contraction are sodium, potassium, and magnesium, so if you're low in any of those, then you risk weakness and cramps. So it's not quite as simple as just drinking table salt.

Yeah, I've had my LG G8 for four years now and I'm just starting to look for replacements. Unfortunately the G8 is known for the battery being very hard to replace or I would be looking into a battery replacement service instead to get a couple more years of useful life.

I mean, I wouldn't want to eat inorganic food. What would that even be, pure salt?

Damn. Did they ever find your actual source code in there

I learned in SQL class that you never ever hard delete data when there is any alternative. On Facebook and Twitter you get a whole month to change your mind before your account can't be recovered.

This was actually a major confounding factor in the original marshmallow experiment. They never thought that kids wouldn't trust the promise of additional marshmallow later.
