We do not collect data from sites and users as claimed by A_norny_mousse@feddit.org.

I have a faint inkling of how a service like yours would work and I do not see any way it could work without doing just that. Since both users and site owners need to create an account.

Seriously stop protesting so much. It makes you look bad.

No misconceptions on my side.

Your business is about three things:

  • convenience for the visitor
  • web sites being able to signal "we care about privacy"

Both these things are what makes the hype around web privacy/anonymity.
You pinky swear that you don't sell or otherwise abuse personal data, but you still get class A data about which users visit and deeply interact with which site.
Why should I lay all my eggs in one basket in the first place?
Of course the same could be said about a secondary or tertiary email provider but then quite a few exist who are at least as trustworthy as your solution.

I said your business is about three things; I think it's easy to see that the first two lead to you growing your business.

About your elaborate emoji- and buzzword-laden replies, let me reply with Shakespeare: "The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

People have every right and reason to be extremely skeptical about offers like these.

BTW I deleted one of my comments because I realized I was wrong. That seems to have rubbed you the wrong way?

Regarding those screenshots:

But then visitors immediately have to create an account with pportal .io to actually get at the newsletter/sign-up/etc.?

I had a quick look at your main page but it did not answer that question.

I understand that a web dev who wants to offer this has to open an account or get an api key of they want to use your service.

Also I could not find a link to the git repo.

edit: according to OP's answer it is as I thought. Yet another company that collects data both on sites and their visitors. Another iteration of the good old Free model a lá Google.

edit2: my personal recommendation is still that people get themselves at least one extra email account with plus-addressing. From a trusted provider of course.
edit3: an option for true aliases would of course be better

I get your point but I left reddit & joined the lemmyverse just a week ago, and did not get banned/censored.

I just felt that a ton of small niggles both technical and content-/moderation-wise had accumulated towards a tipping point.

I have used old.reddit for the longest time and there's always been some glitches (...). There seem to be delays, and they're getting longer. Whether this is just old.reddit or in general, I do not care.

There are other indicators that reddit isn't interested in keeping old.reddit working. It's just a question of time.

Then there's bots, including wetware bots. Whether they're just re-posting to farm karma or actively flooding certain topics with vile opinion or - after a noticeable delay that has nothing to do with timezones - tip the up/downvote balance in their favor: they are here, and it's not getting better.

Kala Namak

That's black salt! I like to use it in cooking sometimes, it's a little like MSG. I'd never sprinkle it on something that's already on a plate though.

It also doesn't have any protein to speak of.

That said, it's perfectly possible to eat tasty, healthy & balanced without eggs.

In the USA? That's interesting. Any idea why they refuse to pay more (but still less)?

The meaning of Honeypot you refer to is a metaphor. It's not wrong to use it in other ways.

I'm just going to latch onto the top comment...

An actual reddit admin posted this 2 days ago:

Today we are rolling out a new (sort of) enforcement action across the site. Historically, the only person actioned for posting violating content was the user who posted the content. The Reddit ecosystem relies on engaged users to downvote bad content and report potentially violative content. This not only minimizes the distribution of the bad content, but it also ensures that the bad content is more likely to be removed. On the other hand, upvoting bad or violating content interferes with this system.

So, starting today, users who, within a certain timeframe, upvote several pieces of content banned for violating our policies will begin to receive a warning. We have done this in the past for quarantined communities and found that it did help to reduce exposure to bad content, so we are experimenting with this sitewide. This will begin with users who are upvoting violent content, but we may consider expanding this in the future. In addition, while this is currently “warn only,” we will consider adding additional actions down the road.

We know that the culture of a community is not just what gets posted, but what is engaged with. Voting comes with responsibility. This will have no impact on the vast majority of users as most already downvote or report abusive content. It is everyone’s collective responsibility to ensure that our ecosystem is healthy and that there is no tolerance for abuse on the site.

This was the only thing left reddit had going for itself: that users can influence the algorithm with their votes.

As someone who switched to feddit just a few days ago I can say this has been building up. Small things like deciding which comments get visibility, phasing out old.reddit, doing nothing about bots, introducing bot/karmafarma-friendly mechanisms, an uptick in pro-MAGA posts/comments as well as disinfo bots ... but still, this feels like an uncharacteristically large step.

There is nothing unique about the United States’ intelligence capabilities. It is possible to replace them

I love this statement. There might be some bluster in it, but they've made their choice (well it was made for them really) and are sticking with it & sticking it to Trump.

As a EU citizen I hope it has the doubtlessly desired effect on the EU to finally Get Its Shit Together.

According to this, for me it would be Ubuntu 10.04. It was my final step away from $PROPRIETARY_OS, way back when.

Or, you know, all of them.

In case anyone had the same kneejerk reaction: no, this is not about privacy etc. Just performance, according to OOP.

Still, this reads like a reaction to a recent overblown debacle.

edit: no, it actually does say "hardened security" in the README, lol, but the whole project seems to boil down to some compiler flags.
