Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly decided to run in the March 2024 presidential election and he’s likely to win another six-year term in office, essentially because there’s no one that can oppose him.

The Kremlin continues to refuse to confirm that Putin, 71, is set to run when the vote is held in March next year but six unnamed sources close to the Kremlin told Reuters that Putin is ready to run again.

With little to no political opposition in Russia — given that prominent Putin critics have fled the country or been systematically jailed by the Russian authorities — it’s likely that Putin will be in office until at least 2030, and could continue his tenure until 2036.

I mean, yeah, I wouldn't want to run against him either. I don't have the FSB following my orders.

They act like there are actually fair elections in Russia. Stupid headline only tries to bring some sort of normalcy to an insane dictator

Future headline: "Putin wins election with 103% of the vote"

eh... its going to be easier to just wait for him to die of old age and then see if Russia fractures further, or not.

Even if there would be someone, that someone could not win this rigged election or would fall out of a window...

I wonder what percentage of the vote he'll get. 120%?

What about all those reports about his health issues? Will he physically be able to complete another term?

[-] ickplant@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago

Do you think it matters to him whether he can or not? This man will not leave his position of power until his dying breath.
