I like how the title seems nonchalant.

"Oh, yeah, and some deaf children in China can hear after gene treatment and stuff."

I mean, the use of gene therapy does seem quite revolutionary, but the treatment only works for a very rare type of hearing loss (”some deaf children…”), and even AFTER treatment, the kids still have a “moderate to severe” loss (assuming the 50dB level they mention is the minimum volume heard). “Normal” hearing is around 20dB. ”…can hear”… a little bit more than almost nothing.

So it’s basically like the regrowing teeth news from last month?

I wonder if this'll also affect Tinnitus?

That's amazing, I hope this treatment get the big ok from other organizations, to start helping people!

I hope they’re comfortable with this new sense

When I see these pro-China pieces, I remember that Chinese citizens can’t speak freely, exercise political will, or breathe clean air. As well as China’s actions towards the annexation/militarization of surrounding waters, erasure of Tibetan and Uyghuar cultures, and propagation of destabilizing online propaganda.
