Didn't feel like waiting for the end, been here a few weeks now.
Reddit Was Fun
Memorial to "rif is fun for Reddit" Android app, aka "reddit is fun", shut down after June 30, 2023
Yeah I followed the link too. Didn't know about lemmy before RIF closed
made an account here recently just to see what was up. I didn't mind reddit (albeit it was very clunky and slow, just not an ideal website for me, miss forums a lot) but lemmy seems like the best compromise. Can't wait to see where it goes from here
Same, glad to join. I am now realizing how much of a pain it is using old reddit on mobile, fuck that lol. Not touching the official app.
Didn't feel like waiting for the end, been here a few weeks now.
RIF was the app that I used when I decided to go deeper into Reddit. Been using it for the past 7 years until today. You will be missed.
Not bad. They just need the page to stop automatically bumping posts down every 3 seconds and this site will be perfectly fine as a replacement
Seriously, I'm legit impressed; there's enough here right already to make the transition work. I'll miss BORU, but losing my AITA habit is probably a win when you're at the point of thinking human extinction may have some good ideas there.
This is fixed now, they deployed 0.18
I'm proud to be done with reddit. I'm eagerly exploring my new addiction. I'm a lemon head.
Thanks RIF, I believe I used the app about 10 years. Always worked very solid. Looking forward to see what happens here.
For now, jerboa is a decent working alternative as an app for lemmy.
I can't get logged in through Jerboa. It keeps saying my server is on too low of a version.
Same here.
Seems to be an update issue on the lemmy.world side. In the meantime I'm giving connect for lemmy a shot.
So far, so good.
Ok
Just made my account too. RIP RIF, you were good to me.
Now I'm excited to see what this Lemmy.world is all about - does it have an app on the Play store?
There are several. Unfortunately, they are all in early alpha. Lemmy wasn't quite ready for the mainstream, so the developers are scrambling a bit. That said, the improvements, even over just the last week or so, are impressive. Even if the apps are currently a bit threadbare and buggy still.
Jerboa is available on the app store. I'm personally using Thunder, though you need to download it from GitHub right now to use it. There are several more out there, but I've not played with them yet.
Ah that's good there are things coming! Looking forward to what the devs can do.
I'll keep a look out! Thanks.
If you don't mind.... can you let us know which app u end up using. I'm hoping to get one that is closest to the RIF app experience of yore
I think the apps will drastically improve in the next month so I'm just using a mobile browser until I see which one becomes the best. The mobile browser is already way better than reddit on a mobile browser so it's not bad.
Same. And your right, the browser for Lemmy right now is SO GOOD.
The king is dead, long live the king!
One of my last posts on reddit, one of my first upvotes (and now, my first comment) here. Seems fitting.
