I'm interested in seeing suggestions too, but what I do is keep a list of things I want to see on Trakt. I just keep adding to it, and then eventually when I want to watch something I'll scroll through and pick one off.

I usually get recommendations from friends or I come across a scene from somewhere and that's how I build my list. Back when I used to look at recommendation posts, it would take a long while to find and pick something

Same with TV shows

Well for a long time i used TV time for keeping track of what to watch, To build my "watch list" I did the same thing as you do, but It seem cool to me the idea of having a list of movies soggested from one or maybe more users, so you are sure that every film is good and you dont have to "haunt" to find something to watch

On the same topic it would also be cool to have weekly or bi-weekly "what are you watching?" threads, we might make some good discoveries that way 😁

I suggested this a few times, but it never convinced @kingmongoose7877@lemmy.film

I think the only mod here is @admin@lemmy.film? Maybe we could launch those threads ourselves (though it would be a bit inconvenient if they don't get pinned).

I'm pretty sure it's him as he's the one managing the pinned megathreads.

I see the point there, I guess the problem for some users is that they dont want to replicate here the reddit structure. other communitues like manga@lemmy.ml are doing the pinned thrend thing where they ask what you watched/read in this week, maybe I think, this form of comunication is just wrong for the users in this community and we could think about something else

[–] Blaze@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago

Well, as wrong as Reddit usually is, having regular threads to have people engaging and sharing recommendations in this type of communities seems reasonable to facilitate interesting interactions among people

Thst would be so cool, that what im talking about in the answer in another comment, maybe getting a list of suggestions made by more users

Are you looking for cult classics or more obscure movies?

[–] Amon_366@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

It is pretry hard that i havent still a classic, maybe there is still some romantic comedy, small production and niche stuff is what im looking for

Maybe the letterboxd top 250? Not sure if that’s what you’re going for or not though.

Letterboxd is great for finding lists of all levels of specificity. Folks on there freaking love to make lists.

The StarTrek.website instance has nontoxic and active community with views - and of course one of the longest running franchises to discuss.

There’s even a great where to start post along the lines you’re looking for.

Now naturally other stuff exists, and we even have a place to discuss that over at /quarks.
