Does anyone know some good video editing programs which don't collapse under their own weight while trying to load a video? I just wanna make some short memes and shitposts!

Haven't used it but maybe Kdenlive? Idk about it's quality.

I second Kdenlive. Ive used it for a few short videos I’ve made, and I found it very easy to use.

Kdenlive is totally serviceable for basic meme making. I've used it a few times for quick professional work. Just a little tricky to find documentation for specific stuff.

Thank you! I decided to go with this and the editing goes pretty smoothly so far. There are smaller bumps here and there but at least there is enough tutorials online not to get stuck.

Glad to hear that! Please tell me about it's flaws if you will find any major ones.

I already made my first video with it and it reached its audience :)

Haven't found major issues, only some slight problems but I found an alternative solution easily.

I've found it can be a little resource intensive - though I only used it for a couple of projects and haven't tried it again!

Yeah, I'm not a meme maker, I just only used like a kapwing style webapp and DaVinci Resolve. Not really applicable software to this post. :D

+1 for kdenlive. you could also try OpenShot Video Editor or ShotCut, but I prefer kdenlive

Maybe https://www.shotcut.org/ (open source)? It's a while since I tried it ...

I've used it, it's cool but pretty unstable. Moved to Kdenlive.

Have used both casually, agree Kdenlive is more versatile once you get past a few UI quirks. Latest version has some neat audio filters; good for removing background noise or distortion from poscasts/webinars etc.

I've used openshot quite a bit.

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Yes, OpenShot is my goto also for simple edits. Holds up fine.

There is also Olive video editor. Is an open source video editing software in alpha stage and requires a bit of a learning curve.

I use Blender for quick cut, audio overlay, quick text, and other quick edits lol. I just realized that I don't use blendmer wgen I want to have effects like fish eye, blur, transitions.

I'm sure blender can do those effects via compositor but I never really touch those part of blender. And I think transitions should be easy but I never had acase where I want to do it in Blender so I never learn how.

I’m also really satisfied with blender. Doesn’t seem too heavy either, my 10 year old computer chugs along just fine.
