Played through the game a year ago, being interested in the 2d Zelda-esque gameplay.

It's now among my all-time favourites. I still play it from time to time. Really excited for Project Terra!

Obligatory, "Hi! Lea! Bye!"

I love CrossCode. A great mix of combat and puzzles, and the story is pretty good (if a bit cliche at times). I also appreciated the risk-reward of chaining enemies for more experience and loot. If anyone has played the base game but didn't try the A New Home content, I really recommend going through that too, both for the story closure but also the great final temple/dungeon and the Arena.

It's been on my wishlist for a while, might wait to see if it'll be on the steam summer sale and get it then!

Absolutely recommend it! I'd put it right alongside other indie masterpieces like Hollow Knight and Celeste.

It's a shame it didn't blow up like those two

Honestly got burned out with it. The game takes a while to actually get going and i suck at aiming so fights are not easy.

Definitely not an easy game, that's for sure. Personally though, I greatly enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish (did most sidequests even!)

There is assist mode in the settings if it seems too hard, and aiming is easier on a keyboard if you play on pc, though I used a controller myself.

Started playing with no expectations and was blown away by the art style and the dungeons. Definitely would recomend to anyone looking for that Zelda style Dungeon and exploration

Old school Zelda or new school Zelda? Because when it comes to dungeons, BOTW/TOTK aren't really at the top of the series

I'd say old school. The puzzles and dungeon designs remind me most of A Link To The Past. However, there's a focus on throwing spheres to ricochet off walls (as that's the basis of the game's combat). So instead of having an arsenal of weapons (sword, boomerang, bombs, arrows, etc.), it's more about tossing balls to manipulate other objects equivalent to those items in each dungeon room.

For example, when you get the Fire element you can imbue your spheres to melt ice blocks, and also to launch bomb orbs further than regular spheres.

Yeah, oldschool 2D for sure where you get introduced to a few mwchanics and given a new tool (sphere element) to complete the dungeon and beat the boss. I don't even consider the dungeons in BotW/TotK to be the main levels in the games, as they are more about open world exploration

It's crazy, I have 80 hours in this game and love it a lot but never came close to finishing it.

I picked it up in Early Access and went all the way to the frost dungeon, which was where content ended.

I picked it up on release and played up until the desert dungeon, then stopped playing because I got busy.

I the picked it up like 2 years later and forgot where I stopped or what I was doing. I want to play it again but I feel like I need to start a new game again.

The game is just wonderful. Gameplay, style, lore, story, quests, dialogs - all done very well. It has a certain nice unique feel to it too - reminiscent of a lot of old (J)RPGs, but also fresh. The only drawback is that it can be pretty hard at certain points, but it's also part of the charm. You try, learn, overcome and end up satisfied. Having said that, I actually play this game in several week sessions switching to something else in between them cause I become irritated by hard parts after some time. Still have to finish A New Home DLC. But it's always great to come back when there's nothing interesting to play. Feels like home, a lot like Death Stranding in that sense

One of my favorite games of all time, despite being relatively recent. The exploration and movement are just so much fun!

One of my top three games of all time, Crosscode was an absolute blast! One of the top complains was how long the dungeons were but that was one of my favourite things. They weren't just in and out experiences, I was really in there for the long haul. It made them feel so much more important.

It looks really interesting but it seems very inspired by JRPGs, and I'm not really a fan of those. I'm afraid I could get bored by endless repetitive dialogue and other shenanigans of the genre

[-] mint@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

You'd be surprised, that's not really how the game goes at all. The characters are actually super compelling and endearing, and the gameplay is meaty as hell. It's one of my top 15 at least and I can't wait for their next game.

[-] pieceofcrazy@feddit.it 2 points 1 year ago

Oh wow! Sounds like I should check it out then!

Such a great game twin stick shooter taken to the next level

I really enjoyed most my time with crosscode. I thought the quality of the side quests was pretty good. Final boss of gone home dlc was rough for me, but loves exploring the world, especially the multi layer terrain.

I have a weird relationship with this game where I really love it but at the same time it took so much time and mental energy that I'm not sure if i ever actually finished it. I would have preferred if it was a more condensed experience with the same core.

[-] LoamImprovement@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

I did, the game's good but it's definitely got a certain je ne sais quoi to it that can be tiring at times. It's worth sticking out though, the final boss is incredible and the ending is so heartwarming.
