Looking for the best place in the fediverse that is dedicated towards images and/ or posting art. Any suggestions?

The only thing I can think of right now is PixelFed, which is more of an Instagram style thing, rather than a DA-like.

I think @dansup has a portfolio feature for Pixelfed, or maybe a special server that was for artists?

hmm, is pixelfed federated with kbin yet?

let's check.

@dansup

yes it is, which shouldn't be that surprising since it federates with Mastodon as well.

What's the difference to users of the two platforms, in your eyes? I'm not familiar with the workflows of either Instagram nor DA

It's been a long time since I've hung out on DA, but Instagram is a mobile-first experience. It looks and feels like it wants to be a mobile app tied directly into a cell phone's camera. The web experience is... It would be generous to call it "secondary".

DeviantArt, at least as I remember it being, is more gallary-like. More... horizontal.

kbin.social has m/art magazine. I hope you would post to there to make here a great place in fediverse.

Indeed. Since you aren't limited to posting in only 1 place, and can change your mind at any time, posting on kbin seems like a wholesome start. If someone creates a great art-centric site later on, you can switch over as needed.

I've looked around a bit, and haven't seen any place with the amount of submissions that deviant art used to have, or the quality level of artstation. So far I tend to enjoy mastadon the most for art, even though it's not a big community. And I mainly check out artstation once a week for my fix of sci-fi, fantasy, concept art etc.

I'm using pixelfed right now!

Here's an example of my portfolio.

It's similar to DA, but it's more Instagram like than DeviantArt. I think this style of posting photos is decent enough but I'll be sure to hop on a DeviantArt-like if it ever does come up

ohh I'd love that! dA was amazing back in the day, but they went down a path I didn't like and I haven't done anything there for ages. Most, if not all, the communities I was a member of have died and it's now more of a homage to the golden days of when I started web design and design in general, for me at least.

If you post to https://mastodon.art/ then your Media page becomes a little portfolio: https://mastodon.art/@spectralvectors/media

i'm looking for a da-like thing too. my preferred site would be a mix of that and tumblr. something that can work as a archive/gallery and blog. i dont like the mechanics of twit/fb/insta but clones of those are mostly what i seem to find.
