The administration of President Donald Trump has declared South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool a persona non grata in the United States.

In a social media post on Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Rasool was “no longer welcome in our great country”.

“Ebrahim Rasool is a race-baiting politician who hates America and hates POTUS,” Rubio wrote, using the acronym for President of the United States.

“We have nothing to discuss with him and so he is considered PERSONA NON GRATA.”

Rubio linked his remarks to an article by the right-wing media outlet Breitbart, wherein Rasool is quoted as saying Trump mobilised a “supremacist instinct” and “white victimhood” as a “dog whistle” during the 2024 elections.

Lawmakers who base their decisions on crap from Breitbart. Can it get any lower?

Trump mobilised a “supremacist instinct” and “white victimhood” as a “dog whistle” during the 2024 elections.

I mean, all of this is true.

Not a lot. They're working on it though.

He should be required to take Elon with him

Why would you do that to this poor man? No one deserves to be saddled with Elon.

Well the young lady on the Jubilee video that Sam Seder debated was quoted saying “What's the problem with xenophobic nationalism?” And that the Trump administration although are doing things to her liking are not extreme enough for her.

So I will be sticking with the South African Ambassador on this one.

It was so frustrating to watch those people "debating" because they all had no fucking clue what they were talking about. That one guy was trying to argue that government agencies get taxed ffs.

Thats MAGA in a nutshell. Thats what we are fighting against. The massive misinformation/disinformation spewed out on social platforms and people lacking critical thinking skills has created this perfect storm of idiocracy.

Is Seder any good? I get recommended his videos a lot on YouTube and the titles seem a bit clickbait-y but I’ve only seen a handful of clips. I like him on Bob’s Burgers though

He's excellent at debating. Yea they use click bait titles like everyone else, but it's so fucking satisfying to see him DESTROY the absolute filth that are today's "conservatives."

[–] PointyReality@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah well worth imo, him and Emma Vigeland who co hosts with him on his daily show are i credible debaters.

[–] SPRUNT@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago

Is he not racist enough?

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 32 points 1 day ago

Just to be clear, you can be a race-baiting politician as long as you love "America" and love POTUS.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago

[–] Firipu@startrek.website 2 points 1 day ago

Trump administration has frequently sparred with South Africa over legacy of apartheid

If I'm understanding this correctly the Americans' issue is that they only have a legacy of apartheid and don't continue it?

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Yea, I've noticed that russians aren't the only revanchists around, there are also plenty of boers with a massive chip on their shoulder.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 7 points 1 day ago

If the icc issues arrest warrants for people, they will be painting pictures of themselves taking showers like other infamous USA administration members.
