Remind me: why do we allow the worst of humanity to get into positions of power?

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 15 hours ago

They crave more and more while decent people stop when they have what they need to be comfortable

[–] LonstedBrowryBased@lemm.ee 6 points 14 hours ago

We should package Elon up and ship him to the Ukrainian front lines to fight the good fight

[–] rimjob_rainer@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Corporations wielding power over nations. This is exactly what was bound to happen with Starlink sooner or later, although it's much earlier than anticipated.

[–] peaceful_world_view@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago

And THAT is exactly the fucking problem Muskrat

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Time to get Ukraine a different method of communication right the fuck away. This is a threat, not a boast.

[–] Geobloke@lemm.ee 4 points 15 hours ago

Really? I figure we just take that power away from him

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Elon will collapse on his knees if US subsidy on his businesses is switched off.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

Elon will collapse if you hide his ketamine bottle.

[–] WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

This is probably the only way he can get erections.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sounds like Ukraine would be within their right to do whatever it takes to prevent such an action regardless of how many toddlers are being used as a human shield.

[–] Excrubulent@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just wait till he walks off negligently ignoring the child. Boom, no more human shield.

[–] Slartibartfast@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm all for the hate musk train but that one was manufactured bullshit and actually opened my eyes at how manipulated I had allowed myself to become.

In the whole clip he comes back for little X and it's a total nothing burger. Obviously he's a psycho and that kid is fucked but leaving him to navigate some stairs for 2 seconds is irrelevant. I guess maybe Americans are more helicopter and precious about kids but in the rest of the world we let them get on with it and that is totally fine.

[–] Excrubulent@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I've watched it too. The image it paints is of someone who has no concept of how children actually behave, presumably because he's never had a reason to spend time with them before.

It's not about needing to helicopter over the kid. If I was with a friend and we were walking somewhere together I'd pay more attention to them than that. That kind of full back turned walk away when you clearly expect to be kept up with is disrespectful unless you are actually intending to walk away and leave the person. The fact he felt the need to turn back and hurry the kid along shows he just gave no consideration to the kid.

He does it multiple times too. Walk away; hurry up; walk away; hurry up. This guy is herding this kid he just doesn't know how to do it, like he expects a retinue or something.

Like you can read it differently if you want but I don't agree with your assessment. The body language is pretty clear to me.

Meanwhile, Europe is pursuing replacements for Ukraine. Obviously none as good as Starlink and there'll be a rough time in the switchover, but Musk is not the only source for this kind of service.

And in the meantime, by merely making this statement Musk has doomed Starlink to never be seriously considered again as a provider for critical services like this elsewhere in the world.

[–] jef@lemm.ee 1 points 19 hours ago

The sad part it, it probably wont if he keeps monopolizing it, a lot of people still use windows, google, etc.. Even though their shit and malicious

[–] SlopppyEngineer@lemmy.world 65 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That really will do wonders for the "don't buy American" waves that's washing over Europe at the moment.

[–] RamblingPanda@lemmynsfw.com 17 points 1 day ago

I didn't need much more of a motivation, but yeah, that really helps cementing the idea.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He sounds like a shitty Bond villain

But it made him feel really important for a while, which is all that matters.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 59 points 1 day ago

It is almost like this Nazi is working against the interest of democracy and supporting the interest of a piece of shit like Putin.

[–] Appleseuss@lemmy.world 68 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Musk's bodyguards have the opportunity to be heroes of the world right now. They would go down in history as great men.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Funny how Americans are all about time traveling to kill Hitler but when they have Hitler at home...

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago (4 children)

When the insane Emperor Caligula was killed by his Praetorian guards and they installed Claudius in his place, the first thing the new Emperor did was execute the guards involved in the assassination.

That fact that he made that comment would cause every other country to second guess themselves using this service. Starlink is now going to be a US service for the most part. My opinion anyway....who knows these days.

And the tone he took with Sikorski when the latter reminded him that Poland is paying for a lot of Starlinks in Ukraine once more show their attitude to their (former) allies and why we need to cut those people loose and develop - or mass-deploy - self-reliant technologies like Eutelsat as quickly as we can. (I don't have the exact wording on hand but it was something akin to "Silence, little man...")

[–] heavydust@sh.itjust.works 144 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Downvoted because we don't have to hear all the idiotic thoughts of this moron but:

I literally challenged Putin to one on one physical combat

Putin is a crazy fucker from the KGB. Strength in a fight is not about age, going to the gym, or all the things Elon believes. I have personally known skinny old guys walking with a cane who could kick his ass in a few seconds.

Ukraine will inevitably lose

Putin propaganda, I am not surprised. The rest of the text is the same shit.

[–] independantiste@sh.itjust.works 98 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Don't forget Elon chickened out on the 1v1 fight with Zuckerberg. He's all talk

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 46 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Zuck would’ve destroyed him too. Dude actually trains in some mma discipline.

[–] epicstove@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wanna see em both face Luigi.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago

Only if Luigi gets two guns, and they get none.

Putin has a black belt in Sambo, and also Judo I think. He might be getting old, but the thing about both of those martial arts is that strength isn't necessarily that important (I mean, unless you're going up against a worthy opponent obviously), but it's all about leverage and using your opponent's momentum against them.

In other words, when you do it right, they kind of throw themselves... Putin would be tossing him around like a fucking ragdoll without breaking a sweat.

I would love to see someone knock Elon down a few pegs... Physically, I mean. Like beat the shit out of him. At least.

@MicroWave Elon Musk truly is a James Bond villain, right down to bragging about his evil master plan to take over the world.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 45 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He's doing that supervillain thing with his fingers in the picture too.

Interesting. So it won't happen unless musk specifically does it. So if musk is not around then it could not happen. Very good to know.

[–] Retropunk64@lemmy.ml 44 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

That's why you don't trust these cunts. They're fucking evil. Also, PACE motherfucker.

[–] credo@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

Primary, alternate, contingency, emergency [comms] planning. For the uninitiated.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We'll need to surround every Tesla store with cops. It will be like crossing a picket line to buy one, and should be protested as such.

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

Broadcasting his intention like this really puts a target on his back. He should be more careful… or not, I’ve stocked up on popcorn.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Since when is he an American billionaire?

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Since he became president of the US.
