Got spam today from someone trying to tap this new market and create a following.

Please don't encourage them. If it catches on it will be terrible. Don't let them destroy this for us.

From "Nicole?"

This is someone that keeps creating new alts and spamming everyone with PMs. Someone noticed on a previous iteration where they posted a separate photo (of a buttplug) that the reflection in the photo was of an old, bald white guy. After being called out they immediately deleted the photo.

I don't think it's an influencer. I think it's just a plain old scammer.

Yeah, "Fediverse Girl". Most lazy alias ever.

Report the accounts to the instance admins so they ban that asshole.

I'm left out of the Nicole club 😔

I got that a few weeks ago. Such a weird spam.

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, I got that one too. I just immediately blocked the account and gave it no thought.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

We already have our local celebrities, anyway. And what good does it do them? Beans.

What ever happened to the guy who desperately needed to not shit for days?

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

That guy is full of it.

As long as no Fed instance attempts to monetize content, these people will have no power. So subscribe to them, engage to them all you want, but absolutely shun any Fed instance that does anything but accept donations to keep the lights on. Money will always enshittify platforms and their content. Always.

Edit: FYI, any real people who want to discuss things with me, don't let your post sound like it came from a rage engagement bot.

Please enlighten us on why everyone should give you everything for free?

Honestly aren't we mostly in this mess because no-one will pay for a subscription so we're stuck with shitty advertising as the only way to keep the lights on for most platforms?

I agree, they have everywhere else it go online to push their BS.

[–] Xenobiotic@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'll encourage them to get a job

[–] upandup@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

“But doing nothing and getting paid for it is my job!“

[–] SnowMeowXP@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I just blocked “her”, whoever that spammer claims to be.

oi, hitting the critical mass of enough users to be interesting, but thankfully not at enough users where it is profitable for them yet. sigh
