I selfhost and cannot guarantee no down time. I have no idea why they applied. Kind of funny.

I closed registration on my instance for this exact reason. Worst case scenario it's some spammer collecting logins.

Good idea. I have the standard admin approval on think. I will change it.

Yep. If you don't want anyone else, just close the registrations.

If you self host, where do the comments you make on other post get stored.

[–] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Your comment is stored on my instance and yours. If you delete it it should be gone from both!

How do I delete your comment? I wanna delete other people's comments!

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Become a moderator and you can delete comments for everyone in your community. As an admin you can delete in every community from your instance.

You mean that for only a few thousand dollars, I could be @thefartographer@myf.art AND I could provide an unreliable server where instances and users will be randomly purged via script???

[–] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes :) and probably for only 50$. My instance is on a used Optiplex and a 10$ domain lol

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Unfortunately, myf.art is going for $500/year

[–] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 3 points 2 days ago

that's a real shame
