The fucking flush michael-laugh

I finally started playing through the Machinehead Wolfenstein reboot series, and TNO at least is pretty great so far. It's incredible that the game turns 11 this year when in my mind it's still a fancy next-gen title chomsky-yes-honey

Speaking of which, it is starting to look its age. I'm usually not one to complain about graphics given that I regularly play games that are 20+ years old but even I noticed the flat lighting and rough textures that feel like something you'd see on the Xbox 360. 2014 was pretty early for 8th gen so I guess it makes sense for it to look a bit transitional. Alien Isolation came around the same time but I remember that game looking much more impressive when I played it some years back.

I do love how absolutely despicable every single Nazi character is in this game, just completely irredeemable assholes. I just hope the game's not going to turn out too annoyingly liberal

they did sort of peak by making a video game that appeals to the one universal human fantasy: killing nazis

Surprisingly no it wasn't liberal from what I remember, the only way to beat the nazis is to kill them all.

Nah, it's all about killing Nazis

It's a bit of a shame because The New Colossus both has worse level design and gets more Lib with the USA being the first place to successfully have a mass uprising against the Nazis

it is super lib but i have to enjoy how wacky and over the top they went with the story, it's a fun game to play through the one time. there are some pretty bad levels though yeah

The decapitation scene is incredible. I love how over the top the whole game is. That made it so much easier to ignore the lib elements for me.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 5 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah the second game was a bit lib but it was so over the top that I loved it.

the USA being the first place to successfully have a mass uprising against the Nazis

Tbf, if the Nazis won, the U.S would be the one of the last on their mind to exterminate.

It's just funny because J has that big impassioned speech in the first game about how the USA was the Nazis before the Nazis

Then New Colossus happens and it's like "Noo, the USA is actually special and even though they were fine with bringing back chattel slavery, they're ready to kill Nazis they just need to see us kill Nazis on TV"

Also the whole "A vanguard of veteran radical communists, socialists, and anarchists leads this spontaneous U.S. uprising but according to the third game this armed vanguard decides to instantly re establish a liberal democratic republic without any alteration. Also, a communist revolutionary decides to just straighten her hair and fully integrates herself into the newly established liberal police state."

Reminds me of how in the Gears of War series humanity almost goes extinct by the end of the third game but in the 25-year time jump between that and the fourth game, the survivors re-establish the horribly callous quasi-fascist military dictatorship that ultimately caused the apocalypse in the first place. One of the main characters even goes on to develop an army of police robots that are deployed to kill anyone opposed to the state and nobody questions this at all

I mean, the Gears of War games are all incredibly stupid, but still

[–] marx_mentat@hexbear.net 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Man I forgot about that pos fourth game. That series has some serious identity issues.

Very similar to Halo, I think. The original devs, Epic and Bungie, ended their respective Xbox franchises on pretty definite notes but Microsoft had to keep them going with new devs who in turn had to come up with something

Carnation Revolution be like

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, the series took a big dive with Youngblood

In design and in story

[–] marx_mentat@hexbear.net 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Youngblood is the weakest for sure but I appreciated the attempt at creating a framework for repeatable level design, even if most of the missions are mid to bad. It feels like a budget effort.

they were fine with bringing back chattel slavery

Is this why I saw gamers saying that TNO was good but TNC "went too SJW" data-laughing

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes

They also baited me with being able to kill a lot of Klansmen and then they didn't let us do that

[–] marx_mentat@hexbear.net 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Did you play any of the new colussus dlc? I really wanted to play the Joseph Stallion one but never got around to it.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, nothing to write home about unfortunately

[–] marx_mentat@hexbear.net 3 points 4 weeks ago

Thanks, I will leave those unplayed then lol

I might be wrong about that but I’m pretty sure it was the trans-dagger that killed him and not the piss. lea-think

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Drowning a Nazi in his own piss for a bit but then deciding him to stab him in the brain instead wasn't as punchy

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 7 points 4 weeks ago

"Mixing his cerebrospinal fluid with his Aryan piss" does the trick.
