I connected to airport's Wi-Fi and this symbol popped up on the corner of the Wi-Fi symbol?

From my search:

"The "+" sign in the WiFi logo indicates that your device is connected to a WiFi network and is using enhanced WiFi features such as WiFi Calling (VoWiFi) or faster data transfer protocols like WiFi 6, depending on your device and network capabilities."

My phone just displays a little "6" where the plus sign is when I'm connected to WiFi 6.

It has a side quest available

These symbols are getting more messy and difficult to decipher... Someone asked me the other day if I had 5g. I looked at my phone and there was no 3g, 4g, or 5g. So, I just said I have VoLTEBlutoothshaky batteryalarmclockkeyupsidedowntriangle62%.

Mine just has an icon that looks like fingers crossed lol ;-D

It means your FBI agent is watching. WiFi plus 1.

Unrelated, but anyone remember "VCR+"? Man I'm old...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_recorder_scheduling_code

Edit: I guess it was actually "VCR Plus+" which is dumb af (it's not a C++ reference. I assure you that the marketing people at the time had no idea what that was. I'm 99% it was just a bad logo that has "plus" and a '+').

Ah yes, who doesn't like C Plus+?

[–] prole@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Oh, I am well aware of C++. But I assure you that they were not referencing that when selling this goofy shit to consumers in the early 90s. I think it's just a really bad logo.

It’s a waypoint. As you move around, so will the waypoint.

Go to the waypoint to begin your next mission.

I suspect it's dual-band acceleration (sometimes called "speed boost") - you're using both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands. WiFi 6 and 7 will probably show a 6 and 7 respectively, and voice over WiFi is shown separately as you say.

Try finding it in your settings, turning it off, and seeing if the + disappears?

[–] hunt4peas@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

Seems like that could be the reason. Network acceleration was on.

It means you have the superior Wifi Plus 😎, peasants only get the shittier wifi 🤮.

Wi-Fi calling is active. So calls go via Wi-Fi instead of cellular.

[–] maniel@sopuli.xyz 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

i thought "VoWiFi" indicates that

[–] hunt4peas@lemmy.ml 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah. The "+" on the Wi-Fi symbol is what I'm asking for.

[–] nis@feddit.dk 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They probably both indicate the same thing: https://www.urtech.ca/2020/08/solved-the-complete-guide-to-icons-on-android-devices/

Maybe someone thought that the + was not clear enough and added the "Vo WiFi" as well.

[–] maniel@sopuli.xyz 2 points 6 days ago

yeah, looks like it's samsung thing

According to the linked article it should be an encircled +

[–] hunt4peas@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 days ago (2 children)

My Xiaomi 14 doesn't have any data saver option.

[–] maniel@sopuli.xyz 3 points 6 days ago

my OnePlus too, guess i'm too European to limit my wifi usage 😅

[–] kratoz29@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago

My Poco F2 Pro doesn't have it clearly visible either... You can look for it with apps like the Hidden Settings app though.

I swear this feature is not hidden in other MIUI ROMs...
