After the recent election, north America can stay away from Europe for a while

[–] butwhyishischinabook@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

looks at Hungary, Poland, Italy, Germany, and whatever Greece calls it's Coast Guard Suuuuuuuure it's definitely just an us problem.

[–] Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Europe definitely has problems, but Trump can do so much more damage than any of the maniacs over here

[–] Infomatics90@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

as much as I'd love a land bridge to come visit my family in Italy from here in Canada. I agree.

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 48 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Those selfish Chileans! They could double their beaches!

[–] Klear@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

And let Argentina have some? Not worth it.

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

Oh shit, maybe half of Chile stays.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 15 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I reckon the Mercator projection has lied to you.

Sounds like a risky click for some reason.

[–] Venator@lemmy.nz 5 points 2 days ago

😂

It's not, it's the site that was used to make the map in the post screenshot.

[–] CaptnNMorgan@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I don't think so, Chile is 2,653 miles long, north to south. I can't get an exact distance from the Canadian coast to the Spanish coast, but the distances that are available from Spain to closer to the center of Canada suggest it would at the very least, be really close

[–] JimVanDeventer@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

I was sure this was a Suddam Hussein post.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 36 points 3 days ago (3 children)

The basis for WWIII .... the world wanting to relocate all of Chile to use as a bridge across the Atlantic.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That a cause worth fighting for.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Those diabolical Chile preservationists...

[–] socsa@piefed.social 10 points 3 days ago

Build the bridge and make Chile pay for it.

[–] obscur_e@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago

When musk will be president yeah

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 17 points 3 days ago (3 children)

That would do very bad things to the ocean circulations which could cause a climate catastrophe. Also it's heavy and they don't wanna.

[–] JustTesting@lemmy.hogru.ch 9 points 3 days ago

That part of the ocean circulation is on track to stop in the next 50 years anyways, so might as well get a chile bridge out of it?

[–] Jourei@lemm.ee 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But will post10 be able to unclog a culvert that large?

[–] Jourei@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

Eyyy, exactly what I was thinking of as well!

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I've got my best team of dapper fresh-faced engineers with limited world experience willing to help for a wad of cash that will most certainly leave you in ruins. What say ya?

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

It's kind of like a weed. The part you see poking up above the surface of the water is connected to a larger continental plate beneath it. You'd need to dig it up but it's in too deep so you can't.

Also, travel by water is actually easier. Less hooligans on the ocean roads.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Chile isn't a weed it's a pepper

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Anything you don't want in your garden is a weed. Maybe the Chile is growing in a tomato patch. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Nightshade berries are nightshade berries. Just eat em. What's the worst that could happen.

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

We should rolled up Chile to make it easier to push it

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

A dehydrated Chile would also have a much smaller net weight

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is the middle of Chile deep enough for the mid-ocean ridge? Or would it snap in half?

Also, I'm not sure Chile would fit through the panama canal, I think as a nation it's post-panamax.

[–] WhatYouNeed@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Rather than try the canal, which is alway rammed at this time of day, it could do a 3 point turn, passing through the roaring 40's and up through the South Alantic?

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Would it hit New Zealand trying to make the turn? It would certainly take out Easter Island.

[–] WhatYouNeed@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Not much loss if Gisbourne was taken out.

[–] jcs@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

But image the traffic 🙃

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just wait for climate change to get real interesting. It could happen.

[–] Sassington@feddit.uk 3 points 2 days ago

I knew climate change was going to be devastating but I wasn't expecting a south American land mass to up and plant itself between North America and Europe....

Moving that country that far north would make the weather just a wee bit...Chile.

[–] 299792458ms@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago

Chilean here, we would need several smaller bridges at the end of the trip "Canada-Spain"

[–] trespasser69@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Because humans can't move that big land

[–] akkajdh999@programming.dev 15 points 3 days ago

Skill issue

[–] DakRalter@thelemmy.club 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 days ago

No, humans can't move blue whales either

[–] RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

It seems theoretically possible, with an unlimited budget and no time limit.
