Just a quick adventure: 20mins, in and out. 😂

She was quite disappointed.

It really was only 5…

... seconds.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale

a tale of a fateful trip,

that started from this big space port,

aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty astro' man,

the Skipper brave and sure,

Two passengers blasted off that day,

for a three hour tour,

a three hour tour.

Now i'm singing the song. Goddammit

Come sit right back and hear a tale
A tale of a short space flight trip
That started from this space port
Abroad this cheaply made ship

The mate was a clueless man
The skipper was equally unsure
Two mindless spacecraft men took off that day
For an eight day tour, an eight day tour

Whenever I see pictures like this I always wonder where on the Earth it's from.

This looks to me like right above the capsule is the Nile River flowing down to Cairo and the delta and into the Mediterranean. And the larger body of water in the top left is the Red Sea. North is down and to the left.

Anyone confirm or have other ideas?

Damn, well spotted. That’s gotta be it. Oddly it makes Egypt look some large from this perspective.

...most low-earth-orbit photos are shot with a wide-angle lens, which exaggerates the curvature of the earth and makes local features appear disproportionately large relative to the horizon...

You should check out pictures of the pyramids. Egypt looks like it goes on forever!

I'm reasonably confident you're correct that desert is too big to be anywhere else really.

*Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,

A tale of a space-bound flight,

That started from the launch pad,

And soared into the night.

The crew was a brave expedition,

Their mission to the ISS,

They docked at the space station,

For a stay they hoped would be a success.

But then a mishap came their way,

The systems went awry,

And now they're stuck in orbit,

With no way to say goodbye.

So this is the crew of the ISS,

Stranded in the sky,

With floating and fixing their new routine,

They’ll adapt and try to get by.

They’ll orbit 'round the Earth each day,

In their floating, cosmic home,

With teamwork and resilience,

They’ll make it through alone.*

PS, I didn't write this.

You know, strand a wacky crew on a Mars base with some goofy passengers... I'd probably watch it.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I think there was an old show called Lost in Space with this premise.

[–] bamfic@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Reality show and we strand musk and bezos there
