Thank you for the article OP.

While this doesn't surprise me, I can't help but wonder how many other parallel situations there are where an industry of many separate entities distort, hide and otherwise lie to the public to maintain the publicly harmful gravy train.

You might enjoy the book "Mad in America." I'm just finishing it now, and it's got basically every variation on that theme. It's the history of how we in the US have treated our "insane." It's a fucking parade of horrors, but wonderfully researched and extremely damning.

The other well known example would be suppressing climate change research, but I'm sure there are lots of others we don't know about. The fundamental problem is that capitalist relations directly encourage these sorts of behaviors. Capitalism is directly at odds with the needs of humanity.
