Listen to me Jack, and listen carefully. This is why you can't have free healthcare biden-troll

I'm gonna cleanse you in nuclear hellfire, Jack brandon

Wasn't the point of hypersonic missiles being that they are so fast, and can make small course changes that make intercepts impossible due to the time between it happening and when an interceptor reacts?

It is easier to intercept an intercontinental ballistic missile and the US still doesn't have ICBM interception technology.

Good luck.

Except ... they do. Since 2020

I'm not saying in actual use it's reliable, but then again that's true of every country's ICBC interception capabilities. Missile guidance tech is one of the things the USA has an edge in.

[–] ThereRisesARedStar@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It isnt reliable. That's the point. Also, note that it isn't for ICBMs, but short and mid range BMs.

[–] Wheeze@programming.dev 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What? USA has been able to do that for decades

[–] ThereRisesARedStar@hexbear.net -2 points 1 year ago

Not reliably. If it was reliable at any point the US would have used nukes on someone else by now.

"Could" doing lots of work here

[–] KingBoo@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Let's just copy the Japanese rail system instead...

Could

lenin-sure They will likely come up with some no-bid sweetheart deal between numerous military-industrial complex grifters and make silly shit that can't operate in the rain or that requires a new paint job every time it's turned on.

Riiiight, you're going to build a thing that presumably goes mach 10 which can shoot other things moving at mach 10

Biden is slowly just morphing into Reagan

Call it Star Wars Joe!

If it's laser-based (and it may have to be if it's going to intercept anything going that fast) it is the Star Wars thing all over again! freedom-and-democracy

Seems like a bit of a stretch if you're having trouble developing a normal hypersonic missle. Presumably, you'd need to make something faster and more agile.

I'd prefer if they'd build big ass robots.

Kinda. I don't want a missile defense system I want Voltron!

Pissing off the rest of Asia in 3... 2... 1...

Japanese demilitarization post-WW2 kept relations stable and happy. What will this do?

[–] Khalic@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago

Minovsky particles at combat density captain!

Maybe splitting the cost over two countries is worth it? Japan would benefit from decreasing the risk of hypersonics to US air craft carriers
